Interesting. I wonder what design they'll come up with. The thread links to a tweet from Moxie from a few months ago, which (along with some other tweets in the thread) is interesting to think about:

In theory they could keep using the native contact list and just stuff Signal usernames in there; iOS does have the APIs to do that, and I'd assume Android too.

interesting...

I personally wouldn't find a lot of use for it because I have twitter DM's sent to my cell already. But people who don't hook their cell up to their twitter (or have multiple accounts) might find a use for it.

Something I have been looking for is a way to have any @myname mentions sent to me in a DM. Set up a service to do that and I'd be interested.

> I wonder what would happen if Twitter built this capability into their own app.

This is built in to the official iPhone Twitter app.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, support for twitter lists is a planned feature.

My guess would be that Twitter has had plans to offer the same functionality.

Oh neat! I've been wanting to build something like this that emails me this plus all tweets by people in a list.

This is great and if lists are created on the user personal account, then they will be visible from the Twitter UI itself.

Too bad is a mobile app.

This is great! As someone who leverages twitter to find early users for side projects, I'll definitely be using this.

One quick nit-picky ui detail - could you potentially make the name link to twitter and not just the username. Awesome work!

I believe Tweetings for Android has been updated to do so already.

I'm somewhat surprised twitter hasn't gone ahead and implemented something like this themselves. Kudos for building a solution!

This is a neat feature! Kudos How about allowing to add other's twitter handle and searching their TL?

that's interesting -- I didn't know Twitter supported that; I'll definitely check that out and implement it once I grok it

Looks cool, and I added my handle, but doesn't twitter already have this feature?

Elegant though it is, I don't think that idea will work; people who I don't "follow" can "message" me in Twitter by including my name in a posting. That doesn't work if I explicitly have to be polling their server to see anything they say.

This is a very cool idea. I'd love to see similar versions for sites like Facebook and Twitter.

Would be interesting to see an app that took a twitter list, sent a tweet out to those in it to authenticate with the service, and from there create 3 additional feeds based on "retweets_of_me" "retweeted_by_me" and "retweeted_to_me" -- the idea would be to concentrate the best tweets in one place regarding a set of twitter users.

edit: can also look for common favorites - like http://favstar.fm

I like the idea, Im not sure how you could implement it on Twitter though.

That’s gotta be pretty cheap to implement, if the Twitter API Terms of Service would allow that kind of thing.

Why would you do such a thing? Twitter already has this functionality...

I mostly use twitter on web, for discovery and for work - Meta, please release a web app soon!

They also need to let us change display names; these usernames don't tell us very much. Also, a following-only feed would be great.
