Further up in the thread he said he wanted to live in the USA because it’s a Free Country too, so I’m assuming he’s not being entirely serious.

I was responding sarcastically, but forgot the /s afterwards. My bad.

He renounced his US citizenship and then got pissy when the US wouldn't let him back in. It was hilarious.

He’s a resident of Singapore, so “looking to leave the US” was not really relevant. Seems he should have stayed away, though.

No, he said he would not mind coming to the US in a comment.

You think he obtained American citizenship because he likes the USA more than any other country, including his home one?

You don't know his motives. Maybe he just did it because it's more convenient for him to currently work there, and constantly having to organise visas was a pain in the arse?

For all we know he hates the USA...?

The "funny" thing given the context of this case is that one the things it would likely prevent him from doing - or at least make far harder - would be to voluntarily visit the US.

"Absent a way to live legally, he has little other choice."

No he has a choice and he chooses to risk being busted and live in the land of opportunities. He can live legally. He can choose to go back to the native country of his parents and start a legal life there. He has graduated from a university in the US. He has done work in the US. He is much better off resume-wise than many of his peers.

You read the part where he said he has lived in the U.S. for 8+ years, right?

He might want to visit the USA some time.

The fact that he's domiciled (and seems to enjoy his life) in the US, and that the government has the ability to take everything you own and lock you up if they so decide. Probably.

I’m pretty sure his desire was to escape prosecution in whatever country would let him live relatively normally.

Even if he did eventually want to live permanently in the US, why would that be a reason to ban him? Does the US only want people who hate the place? If so, they're doing a good job.

If he wasn't a coward he could choose to live in the United States.

i think he was just trying to make it like he knew something. unfortunalty he didnt but that dosent stop people on the internet. And i dont actually have any motivation to visit the us. Its too far from home.

I don’t think the parent comment said he was planning to move to Russia or China instead.

Maybe he understood that things got serious and doesn't want to get extradited to USA.

But he doesn't have a choice. The USA will not let him in regardless, so saying he won't ever return is a rather moot point. If he was let in to the country and then decided this it would have a much different perspective. He is likely not pleased that he can't get back in he states and thus it is more than likely the OP is not telling the whole truth.

Err, even disregarding the fact that there's more to life than the money you earn, staying in the US wasn't even an option for him.

why didn’t he just renounce citizenship. he hasn’t been to america in a long time has he

If he doesn't live in the USA and is not planning to come back I don't see how it is a "horrendous advice" to renounce his US citizenship.
