Don't worry, they will come to US once they become Canadian citizens on a TN visa.

The TN visa maybe enough for them once they become Canadian citizens.

They will all eventually will migrate to US once the policies are relaxed. This is a typical path for immigrants who can’t get into US directly: Rest of the world -> Canada -> acquire TN Visa -> migrate to US

They all eventually come back to USA after gaining a foothold in Canada. TN Visas. Majority of TN Visa users are immigrants into Canada.

Sounds faster to go to canada and become a canadian citizen and then enter the U.S. on TN status :P

TN visas aren't dual purpose so when it comes to staying permanently Canadians are on the backlog with the rest of the world.

That's BS. TN doesn't help Canadians with family. Also US CBP can always terminate your TN visa on the border if they "think" you are abusing. H-1B is safer for that reason.

> So why move to Canada?

Get Canadian citizenship after 3 years, and become eligible for TN visa, which is not subject to any lotteries or quotas.

You forgot another option. Immigrate to Canada and then move to the US on a TN.

Yeah sometimes I wonder if Canada anticipated the massive brain drain the TN visa has ended up being. It would be ironic if Trump shut it down.

But can't Canadians move to the valley too with the TN visa?

Not true... it is much easier for an American to move to Canada (and vice verse) due to the TN Visa. Essentially no process or redtape, all you need is an job offer in one of the qualifying professions (Software Engineering is one of them) and an American can literally present that to immigration 2 hours before their flight at the airport and get a visa stamped on their passport.

The best thing that could ever happen to Canada would get rid of that god awful TN-Visa. TN - Talent Nuke. Completely sucks us dry of people moving to the US.

A Canadian would come in under a TN visa which is not a lottery, not H1-B.

Not that easy! TN visa is kind of automatic if one have engineering degree from Canada or related job offer. Even for 'software developer' it can be tricky. Also Canadian citizenship after 3 years is in reality 3 years + 1-2 years of the wait time. Source https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/se...

Btw American citizens can work in Canada without a visa - see TN status. Just need a job offer and relevant university degree.

Canadians get access to TN class work visa. It's meant for temporary work, but gives a few years to figure out a more permanent approach.

There's always Canada which can act as a backdoor into the US via the TN visa. Although it's awesome here in Canada you probably won't want to leave.

It is tied to NAFTA though and in the current climate this may not last.

many people who are not getting H1B are going to Canada through express entry program. They plan to return to USA again after getting Canada citizenship on TN visa.

You can get your Canadian citizenship after a few years, which allows you to use the TN status under NAFTA to work with relative ease in the US. As a bonus you have a backup in Canada should the US go south. It's a no brainer.
