In the movie “Airplane” the autopilot is an inflatable humanlike doll full on manning the plane. :-)

It's the name of the autopilot in "Airplane!". I'm hoping they whimsically include an inflatable entity to let people know the truck is under computer control.

Autopilot != autonomy in cars or in planes.

Autopilot.

Unfortunately, most people attribute the word 'autopilot' with the way Otto performed in the movie Airplane!...

Autopilot?

Autopilot?

Yes, most people think autopilot flies the plane.

Really isn't a hard concept to understand.

Autopilot means that the plane flies itself. Pilot is there in case it catastrophically fails.

It's called Autopilot™.

Exactly like autopilot on a plane! :o

To your average layperson who doesn't know much about aviation, "autopilot" means "the plane will fly itself".

A "fancy autopilot" can take off and land.

“Autopilot” is literally an airplane term and refers to systems that can take-off, cruise, and land the plane even in many adverse conditions without any human input.

Autopilot :)

Autopilot is just autopilot. There was lot of plane crashes with autopilot involved.

Autopilot is accurate but most people don't know wat a plane's autopilot does.

That's where the autopilot comes in.

You sound like someone educated about aviation - Average Joe is not.

To Average Joe, "Autopilot" means it flies/drives itself.

Traditional autopilot is a fancy cruise control for the airplane, so name is actually pretty apt.
