Isn't that a temporary problem though? With ETH 2 launching probably by the end of the year?

sort by: page size:

Currently, ETH is in big trouble: delay on the POS (I don't think it'll be ready before 2022), new binary compatible chains that will allow everyone to move on if ETH2 fails.

Also the ETH futures recently introduced will initially push the price down, like they did for BTC.

This is only a short term issue. ETH is currently transitioning to proof of stake with ETH 2.0

This ends when ETH2 arrives.

This is actually not a problem right now because soon eth will be mined via proof of stake.

ETH 2.0 delayed by another year...

And furthermore, it would be years until the actual ETH2 is usable, right?

It'll take longer than a year or two for something as complex as ETH2 to mature to a point where it can be considered as finished as Bitcoin.

ETH2 has been 6 months away for 6 years.

ETH2 phase 0 _may_ come at the end of the year. It will be many more years before ETH2 is live and trusted with real funds... enough to either absorb ETH1 or switch over to it. Heck, it may not happen at all. Amazing how this group mindset around ETH2 works.

I don't think that's a reality yet though. ETH 2.0 hasn't happened yet.

It's coming with Ethereum 2.0. The transition process to Eth2 is on the way, it is estimated that they will finish by 2022.

Please elaborate.

Also when will ETH2 roll out?

ETH2 has been in discussions and development for more than 3 years.

ETH is still on PoW and will continue to be on PoW for many more years.

Until ETH2.0 comes online you won't see it...it will be at least another 18-24 months till the transition is completed.

It's already out, but most people are still on the eth1 chain

While I don't deny and made sure to include the 'unless it gets delayed' part, they are much further along now.

The majority of ETH 2 is live and more and more ETH is locked to it (~12% right now) so the current 2022 estimate is a bit more realistic than past ones (though, of course it can keep being delayed).

You don't see any other issues? Ppl being centralised, servers (ETH has ~24k nodes), nothing like that?

ETH 2.0 is operational and is PoS but the main Ethereum is not Proof of Stake just yet. 2ish years (Vitalik time = Valve time, so probably 3+ years).

Yeah I'm not sure what the parent is going on about regarding ETH 2.0. I already converted some ETH -> ETH 2.0 and its earning more coin in rewards right now. Granted it can't be moved until the next phase, I believe, which could still be a while, but it's not vaporware.
