Sorry, but it's been my experience that people who submit that argument have know neither people nor poverty well enough to speak as an authority to its causes.
The poor don't deserve to be poor. And they don't deserve to not be poor. The whole concept, applied at a global level, is nothing more than yet another example of our need to wrap everything we see in pretty stories.
I wish we had a more equal world, but I don't see why should I believe this to be anything more than a personal preference.
And yet another case of "the poor have no morals or responsibility, and deserve terrible they get" - no matter that evidence / research doesn't show this. And in fact shows the opposite.
It’s not our responsibility to make up for your lack of income. Poverty sucks, but punishing the masses so you can feel good about “fair share” creates resentment and abandon.
If soceity must have poor for it to function, as you claim. Nobody should feel bad about opressive actions towards poor people, or be concerned about making their lot better.
Gives a nice tummy feel but does nothing good for society.
