Get an external mic. It's a niche enough use case that they don't need to cater for it.

That's not a bad idea... then just connect an external mic (headset) when you need one.

The problem is not people using shitty external mics, the problem is people using internal laptop mics that is horrible. Any external mic would be a huge upgrade, just don't work from a noisy environment or at least don't take calls from one.

People appreciate good sound when they have to listen, but rarely when other people have to listen to them.

Just buy an dynamic mic if you want a mic that work well even when there is people around you.

You could still use an external mic when you need it.

Don't use a mic. For external audio, I use bluetooth.

With an external microphone, if you need it.

External mic I guess.

Holy crap, yes. I started having conferences with people using Air Pods and they're dropping out so much. Please get an external mic!

Rip the mic out

Plug in USB mic when you need one.

Also buy a (half) decent mic! They're much cheaper than you might expect.

yeah just grab a cheap external microphone, it will do the trick! Keep up the awesome work.

Why not just use a USB microphone?

Why only an "important" call? Once you've made the investment in the hardware, it's pretty much a simple matter of just plugging it in, as long as you're at home. I've found that the higher sound quality from a dedicated external mic more than makes up for any minor inconvenience having to deal with hardware, unless I have to be mobile for some reason.

No matter how good your mic is, you still have too much ambient sound. A mic near your mouth is the best solution so far.

If they added a TRRS connector it would be quite easy to plug an external mic that way.

- Use headphones that have a mic

- Use a webcam with an inbuilt mic (fairly common)

- Use an dedicated mic

Plenty of options here.

I always thought a headset is better than external mike as you can move around and dont get background noise. Is there a reason not to use a headset mic?

Half my team use speakerphones and it drives me nuts.

Get really good noise canceling headphones, then get an external microphone.

Don’t try to combine them.

For extra points, use your phone as a webcam.

..plus add a good speaker and multiple mic (all available at commodity price).

Oh, with the built in microphone option! Great idea.

Thanks for that recommendation!
