Arguing with the faceless Apple executives via the internet is wishful thinking, whether you succeed or not.

Also, you don't downvote comments because you consider them wrong or refuted, you downvote because a comment was not beneficial to the discussion. It's people like you that slowly chip away at what HN is intended to be.

And downvoting someone on HN is going to make Apple abandon this philosophy?

Of course you are being downvoted, criticizing Apple is the number one downvote reason on HN. I agree with you and will take my share of downvotes for expressing my opinion and respecting all the other HN rules.

You have been downvoted because many people on HN base their votes on whether they like the message of a comment. People who like Apple products and can identify with the values of the company will feel you're defending Apple with your comment and will upvote you for doing so. Other people who like X11 or XQuartz a lot or simply dislike Apple will feel that you're trying to defend an evil act and will downvote your comment in retribution. I'm not sure how helpful this voting pattern is for the quality of HN discussions but it's basic human nature and there's not much that can be done about it.

You were downvoted for being wrong. And now you're being downvoted again because you're whining about it, instead of just admitting that you were wrong.

I see about as many people complaining that HN irrationally loves Apple as that it irrationally hates Apple. Neither one is true. Mostly HN downvotes people who don't check their facts.

I don't think your downvotes relate to criticising Apple per se; they're due to a poor argument style. I am no great fan of Apple, but hurling vague accusations and FUD, then shifting the goalposts when anyone tries to refute you, adds little to the conversation besides noise.

> I still haven't changed my mind

Well you should have. You've been thoroughly shot down. The fact you don't accept that says more about you than anyone else.

I like how you have been incessantly downvoted despite being completely accurate.

The Apple fan club on HN is strong and tolerates no dissent.

Just a friendly reminder to whoever downvoted me: you're really not supposed to downvote on HN for differences of opinion. I understand a lot of people have a lot invested in Apple, but having used and developed for both devices, this is my best, somewhat educated but possibly incorrect, guess as to the future of these platforms. And none of this is really new. So rather than anonymously downvoting, why don't you venture an opinion of your own?

Actually it just confirms that people on HN don't want you spouting moronic shit, regardless of our feelings towards Apple (personally I hate their products, and I felt very good downvoting you twice).

Was this response really such low quality that it warranted a downvote? Or are we just not allowed to voice any criticism of Apple on HN anymore?

And of course I get downvoted for being perfectly right. The rampant, rabid Apple fanboyism on HN is utterly disgusting.

Because on HN it is allowed to downvote based on disagreement, and it is a thread about how well Apple is currently doing.

Why did I get downvoted?

Butthurt Apple fanboys can't stand my comment?

HN is such a joke with these people.

You predicted that you would be downvoted for your views. Have you considered the alternate explanation that your fellow HN users appreciate a fresh perspective but don't appreciate dragging the tone of the discussion into the gutter with abusive stereotypes like "Apple fanboys?"

It's getting to the point where the use of the word "fanboy" in a thread effectively ends all rational discourse.

Interesting to be downvoted even when HN requires 500 karma to get downvote rights. Sorry for stepping on the toes of Apple fan club members.

You posted 10 comments about this. That's way too much, and the site guidelines specifically ask people not to comment about downvotes because "it never does any good and makes boring reading": https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html.

You're quite right, of course, that people vote with feelings and ignore facts, but you're wrong about that being specific to Apple. It's true of everything, and therefore it is not interesting (although it certainly is annoying). We want HN threads to be for interesting conversation.

I see you got downvoted. HN has descended into a pro-Apple prattle pit yet again, which is sad.

Oh good, I see the downvotes are rolling in now (I was concerned after receiving a wave of upvotes yesterday). I've found there is no more reliable method to collect downvotes on HN than to say something critical about Apple.

It is rather sad that your legitimate and well thought out comment gets downvoted to oblivion, apparently because it expresses an unpopularly (on HN) non-Apple worshiping viewpoint.

Meanwhile mikeklaas short, completely and wildly factually incorrect comment gets plenty of upvotes, apparently because it supports the HN popular view that anyone daring to compete with Apple must be incompetent?

Apparently, at least where Apple is concerned, HN has it's own version of group-think now?

A fair point though it was downvoted because HN is biased in favor of Apple. It's better to avoid any discussion concerning Apple products here, it just doesn't have the quality that other topics usually have.
