I think it's stupid to downvote your parent comment (and I upvoted it in hopes of de-graying it), but 1. downvotes are not "censorship", and 2. the behavior of a few individual voters here has nothing to do with "our industry".
This will continue until the population becomes comfortable with extra-judicial violence against those in power.
(Also, look at how old my account is and consider whether or not I care about your downvote. Reply with something that directly refutes the point I'm making so we can have the vibrant discussion this website used to be known for. Downvotes are simply pathetic attempts to silence correct views. Intellectuals have discussions, not censor their opponents. Only the most indefensible and mediocre positions depend on censorship. It also explains why the most unimpressive people depend on it.)
It is fascinating how many downvotes you get for posting a mild condemnation of heinous and/or illegal behaviour and hate speech. I wonder what their internal justification is.
It's disturbing to see a comment prefixed with a concern about downvotes, which suggests a gropthink environment. This is a hackers community. Please speak up without fear of lost karma or reprimand from the local celebrities.
I agree with you. I think the down-voting that goes on here is basically group-speak censorship and creates an echo-chamber. Tyranny of the majority...
For what it's worth, I didn't downvote. And to clarify, it's not the guillotine for fake comments, so much as using money and power for inherently anti-social motives. The wants of the few should never trump the needs of the many.
Eventually the many will get fed-up, and the few will become the none.
Once again a post that does not break any guidelines is being downvoted. Which proves why we need to battle deplatforming inj the first place. If you cannot even post something as harmless without people trying to bend the system to silence you, then I cannot believe that there will be a due process for anyone that has a really strong opinion.
>Soo, people who you disagree with should be stopped from spreading their opinions?
Nobody's stopping anybody from spreading their opinion, last I checked. I said the downvotes were deserved.
Not only for being factually incorrect, ("Prison has to be scary", which is the whole premise of the post, is handily disproved by looking at some of the Nordic nations' systems), but for perpetuating the kind of culture that allows solitary confinement (i.e. psychological torture) and prison rape to be accepted by otherwise sane and caring people.
The culture of "whatever happens to guys in prison is their own fault" NEEDS to stop.
