After ten years of people claiming that everything they happen to personally dislike is objectively "harmful" and ought, therefore, to be banned, I'm exhausted and fed up. Technology is not harmful. If the market isn't weeding out "harm", it's not harm.
I think that backlash against tech has reached such a fever pitch at this point that a huge number of criticisms of it are overblown.
Does tech have problems? Sure. But in order for the criticism of it to be effective, we shouldn’t mix it in with general compliants about our current economic system.
Agreed. This isn't a tech problem, this is a social problem. There is nothing wrong with the current technology, we don't need more code to solve this.
I personally feel it caused an unhelpful epidemic of snark about technology. When you have a bug you're trying to squash and you take a break and skim Twitter, this kind of sentiment is like salt in the wound.
