Same. I really have no idea how people break these cables.

sort by: page size:

I’ve never had a cable break like that. Many people just don’t know how to handle cables and treat them like rope without any knowledge of bend radius, internal wire twists, etc. (and don’t care if they crush them).

I will basically immediately throw away about a dozen cables and need to buy new ones. I'm unclear on how I'm gaining in this.

I rarely have cables fail, and don't really understand how others have this problem, beyond the kneejerk thought of user error.

Whenever I have a bum cable and confirm it’s the cable, it gets destroyed. Too many cables have failed to get into the trash or have somehow crawled back out for me to do anything else.

I have to change my cables every 1-2 years because they will inevitably break with normal usage.

Oh FFS I just learned this was a thing, I can't even trust my cables anymore.

They're just built so flimsily that breaking them is a complete inevitability if you need to plug them in more than once, they're like a 5 time use cable.

Erm? You must be exaggerating a bit, I use cables/connectors hundreds of times with zero isses.

Misuse / mistakes happen, yes. But?

Cables.

Cables.

You really think so? I mean these are cables, there's no secret how to make them and they've been making them for decades, so they'll probably know what they are doing. There's no user experience on cables. It doesn't seem so far fetched to me.

How terrible are people treating their cables? That number is insane to me.

I wish they'd make the cable part replaceable.

Thanks for sharing.

I can't quite explain it, but... having not known of the existence of such cables, and despite the fact that it's good I don't have a use for one since they're not exactly cheap, there's something about them that makes me want to buy one.

I've really no idea why, but I even spent a few minutes wondering if there's anything I've never done due to not having a cable like that, but didn't think of anything.

(And it's not like I'm a cable collector or enthusiast or anything like that, generally!)

The article said that they determined that if two cables broke already it means the other cables are not strong enough either.

Which means replacement is the only option and apparently they decided there's no way to replace it without dismantling it.

I've seen a friend Dell completely destroyed by someone stumbling over the cable.

Every cheap cable I’ve ever bought has work fine until I damage the cable.

I work with steel though, so I’m rough as fuck though.

Send DM - I have a carton of broken RJ-45 cables to sell you !

It's like VGA cables came with loctite pregooped on with how hard they were to unscrew.

Same here! I’m going to see if I can find the cable around here somewhere.
