"China forces birth control on Uighurs to suppress population (apnews.com)"
Yet, no Boycott, Divest, Sanction (BDS) against China.
A Muslim Congresswoman who said of Jews and Israel, "It's all about the Benjamins" -- a very anti-Semitic statement, has not come out criticizing the Chinese for their actions against Uighurs who are Muslim.
>Note that Uighurs are majority Muslim and they aren’t all being exterminated (certainly some are), but the primary efforts seem to be making that region and ethnicity much more similar in culture to Han-Chinese. It rings of the “white genocide” and “Jews will not replace us” slogans.
This is quite the impressive paragraph. What are you even saying?
China has allowed a huge amount of anti-semitism to surge on its social networks and media recently. They are not coming from an Abrahamic religion. It’s more than that.
Meanwhile the Islamic world has ok’d (in the UN and other forums) China to literally create concentration camps to sterilize and erase the Uygur culture and Islamic religion.
>China's oppression of the Uyghurs is well documented, and is a process to destroy Uyghurs as a people
It’s easy to demonstrate it’s not true: Uighurs, like other minorities, have certain privileges, like teaching kids their own language, or not being subject to one child policy. The oppression is a way to combat terrorism; essentially China is fighting the same problem US did, but in a more humanitarian fashion instead of bombing and droning.
Have you noticed that just from your description above Russia is much closer to US than to China? From unfair elections, to systemic oppression of racial minorities, to invading other countries.
> The reason why now this has changed - we do need to probably call it a genocide - is quite simply because the evidence now, for the first time, very specifically meets one of the five criteria set forth by the United Nations Convention for the Punishment and Prevention of the Crime of Genocide from 1948, which specifically says the suppression of birth.
The timing for Zenz shift in opinion is very convenient. China removing family planning policy exemptions for minorities like Uighurs started back in 2017. The policy was proposed back in 2014 and saw some discussion among China watchers in the following years. This is not a new policy change, and one Zenz should be aware of for at least 5+ years.
Uyghurs have always been Muslim. Infact their genetic makeup is Turkic as opposed to Han/Hui Chinese.
I'm aware of the PRC's attempts to remove any sign of self-identity by force-feeding them during the Islamic month of Ramadan, and banning beards, etc.
This post isn’t excusing Chinese actions towards Uighurs, but is heavily critical of anti-Chinese criticisms of their Uighur policy.
Note that Uighurs are majority Muslim and they aren’t all being exterminated (certainly some are), but the primary efforts seem to be making that region and ethnicity much more similar in culture to Han-Chinese. It rings of the “white genocide” and “Jews will not replace us” slogans.
The Chinese government seems to use the 9/11 style “we are monitoring them so they don’t become radical Islamic terrorists”. The government efforts are to destroy practice of Islam, to restrict / deter the spread of Islam and criticisms of the government.
Interestingly the most anti-Chinese people in the US are the ones with the biggest intersection with these policies and claim the US is doing the exact same thing to them.American Christians who claim they aren’t able to practice their faith in the US, while simultaneously insisting that the US is a Christian nation, that Islam shouldn’t be practiced in the US, that Islam creates terrorism, that civil liberties should be rolled back in the efforts to reduce terrorism, and insist that Islamic Sharia law is endemic in the US.
American Anti-Chinese sentiment of the social type seems like a cry bully. There are some far more valid criticisms of the wider social controls and economic policy in China.
