Can you really be a HN reader and continue to feign ignorance on this point?
Go read the comments on any article that mentions Apple (like this one) and you will see the pros and cons repeated 10s of times.
You understand full well, you just don't agree. That's fine, but not really worthy of discussion anymore.
You know, you shouldn't comment if you haven't even bothered to read the article or don't understand the issue being discussed right? HN really does turn into a low-effort circlejerk any time Apple comes up.
Glancing at your comment history I can't help but notice that most of your comments are related to defending Apple, even at points where the consensus on HN is that Apple is obviously in the wrong. I applaud you, sir.
I think you're forgetting your forum. HN has a very very pro-Apple bias. Anything good for Apple or bad for Apples competitors will get a disproportionate amount of attention here.
This is absurd. HN is not a monolith. Every time Apple has a new product there's plenty of people fawning over it, plenty deriding it, and most people somewhere in between who don't care enough to comment.
A fair point though it was downvoted because HN is biased in favor of Apple. It's better to avoid any discussion concerning Apple products here, it just doesn't have the quality that other topics usually have.
Every single article on HN with a little of criticism of Apple gets the same kind of responses and becomes basically a giant appeal to novelty fallacy. You're against progress, it's new so it's better, Apple knows best, etc.
You're being silly. A very large majority of HN users use Apple products in one form or another. I can't speak for the rest but I am just not automatically going to accept each and every thing that any entity does as good. And that includes Apple.
If you think everybody around you is an idiot on a forum that contains an extremely large number of well educated and tactful people then I think you should consider the possibility that the problem lies with you.
Calling the majority of HN "mindless ideologically driven jerks" is collective name-calling, something that is simply not done here.
If there is 'no point in participating here at all' then why do you continue with your endless non-coherent tirades?
You were downvoted for being wrong. And now you're being downvoted again because you're whining about it, instead of just admitting that you were wrong.
I see about as many people complaining that HN irrationally loves Apple as that it irrationally hates Apple. Neither one is true. Mostly HN downvotes people who don't check their facts.
Maybe HN just has a diversity of opinion on apple products? There is plenty of reason to critique apple and plenty of reason to praise their products. I come to HN for the insight, and it is hard to get more insight about a tech company than from a bunch of tech nerds who disagree about it!
HN is increasingly not the best source for technical discussion due to the bias you're noting here. It's unfortunate given the general level of discussion that's historically been happening here.
I find Matthew Green's take more useful than just about anything in this thread - someone who's very critical of Apple but able to articulate why this is overall net good:
Maybe don't get into an argument about semantics when it's pretty clear what the person you replied to originally meant. Half the comments in this thread are reacting to the negative comments about Apple in this thread. Typically for other big tech companies you don't see that because there's a huge bias towards Apple on HN. Idk why you went totally off the rails because of "cowardly" downvotes but I assume that you received them because you were very clearly misconstruing my statement.
I don't see it, I commented against apple in minutes some one immediately quoted a comment from another post which seemed anti-apple. Yea I'd say HN is pro Apple.
