Anybody else thinking of the walkers from star wars when reading the headline? I was a bit disappointed seeing the size as it promises "giant" which does not really live up to star wars size expectations..

Jedi don't scale...

Star Wars concept artists Joe Johnson says they literally lifted the famous Walker designs directly from Syd Mead's US Steel "futurism" portfolio - http://www.carstyling.ru/en/entry/Sid_Mid_Syd_Mead_Retro_Fut... (1)

And the imperial probe drone is a nearly analog copy of one of Jean Giraud (Moebius) sketches in his "Long Tomorrow" work(2)

The Star Wars team unabashedly stole, scraped, and inspired their way into the most vivid and impactful scifi universe created - as good artists do!

>They kind of look like ewoks.

No, that's just an idea from one of the characters. (Re-used in a "what-if thought bubble.")

Nobody really knows.

Isn't he a little short for a storm trooper?

If they had made the death star bigger, they could have done this tbh.

Oh yes ... but I now have this irresistible vision of Vader and the Emperor walking through the Death Star landing bay, with a 12 foot long haired Bantha tiptoeing behind the massed ranks of Stormtroopers trying to look inconspicuous in a red cloak and disguise

Maybe it's just me

A Star Wars character?

"Aren't you a little short for a Stormtrooper?"

Sorry, but I have to call bullshit on the headline. There is, in fact, only ONE Stormtrooper pictured. Not plural "Stormtroopers". ;)

Vader must have made budget cuts.

I just got this image of a classic Star Wars scene:

"These aren't the 'droids you're looking for. Seriously. Hell, the stubby one isn't even a 'droid. Look it up."

"These aren't the droids you're looking for."

There's also Gen. Grievous and his throphy lightsabers.

There's a paragraph and photo of this very thing in the TFA

Every time I see something like this, I become more sure: The empire will have stormtroopers.

>Just watching robots trundle around as though it's normal is an interesting slow creep towards what seemed so futuristic in Star Wars in the 70s and 80s.

My nostalgic reference for this is R.A.L.F. from Flight of the Navigator - https://disney.fandom.com/wiki/R.A.L.F.

You missed the [2] url :)

I'm curious what the droids look like!

yeah, he was originally designed to look more like something out of Lord of the Rings https://www.starwars.com/news/5-early-star-wars-character-co...

I love these looks at drafts and revisions… I even collect a few, I've got Eliot's The Waste Lands and just found an edition of J.G. Ballard's Crash, all with the typewriter scratches and penciled in notes. Would definitely grab one of these if it got formally published someday.
