Also adding that the total military budget of the US is 600+ billion a year. Talk about scary and it is not just an idle threat. The US has killed more civilians than any other actor in the modern world.
Our armed forces are safeguarding Americans from a worldwide foe that could show up anywhere on the globe.
To beat the world, we have to outspend the rest of the world combined on defense.
Perhaps the greatest danger to American defense is insider threats. If the looming danger from insider threats is stark enough, we will absolutely need to find a way to outspend ourselves on defense.
It’s not merely military organizations. The US president and congress use military force on any target in the world even when there’s no or very little benifit for security of US citizens, even under influence of lobbyists. Think of Vietnam or Iraq 2003, and others.
Your argument falls apart precisely because of the violent and boneheaded nature of American governments. America unleashes its military without thinking of the consequences and there is no excuse for it.
I think part of this narrative is the US spends an incredible amount on the military. If they don't continue to cast the entire world as with us or against us then that amount of money becomes harder to justify.
The US currently has the largest military in the entire world by a huge amount, almost three times that of China. The US could begin to reign in military spending without being vulnerable.
