I find your perspective extremely disturbing, and believe it empowers anti-vaxxers more than anything else.

Uh ... Im pro vax, and vaxxed, but this is pretty shocking. Take a look from the other side for a second.

Oh I wasn't directing my comments to you. My apologies, I just tried to express my reluctance of looking at anti-vaxxer content.

Even if this linked OP is just acting, I still find it very repulsive due to my previous experience. I wasn't referring to that comment anyway.

I’m pro-vax, anti-authoritarianism. I realize this is hard for a lot of people (like yourself?) but it really shouldn’t be.

I do not even dream of 'deplatforming anything [I] disapprove of'. But your reply made me think again why I consider going to all these lengths with regards to anti-vax.

Well, it seems like child abuse to me, and it's not even containable - the effects are not limited to their family, but can effect mine as well* . Second, I don't see a way for political resolution here. On political matters there are votes and if my side loses, that's the way it is. Here, the very fact such a movement exists (even if the vast majority is against it and votes against it) puts some immunocompromised people at risk.

* There are religious sects that agree to basically live apart of society - so it wouldn't matter that much to us what they do - but I don't think that's a possible resolution to this issue, not for most anti-vaxxers.

This is the sort of thing anti-vaxxers seize on and distort.

It also puts into perspective why the antivaxxer movement is so vile, regardless of what the individual people in it might have as their motivations.

This is really what I was asking, so thanks for posting it. I'm not an anti-vaxxer or anything like that, I believe in science etc, I was just pretty taken a back by what was said and i didn't have any outlet to explore it (so I hope dang will pardon me for posting something like this as I realize it's at a line).

Agree with this. I think that is the part I find most interesting about the article. The connection to anti-vaccination is a bit tenuous.

I have an anti-vax person in my family. As disturbing and wrongheaded as their opinions are, I find it significantly more disturbing that they are being censored.

The irony is that this censorship doesn't even work. It just strengthens their resolve and deepens their conviction that they have found The Truth in their conspiracy theories.

Also, it seems you are an anti-vaxxer so of course you are stretching and warping statements so they fit your world view. So sad that even on HN this idiocy exists.

Well I'm not an anti-vaxxer. I actually helped review this article before it was published. Can you provide anything constructive here or are you going to keep responding the way you have so far?

That would be a reasonable outlook but antivaxxers spread cult like anti scientific beliefs that endanger the lives of many people beyind the individual antivaxxers.

This cult like behaviors isn’t deserving of ordinary empathy it needs to be seen for what it is and stopped. Fortunate many countries are doing this.

As someone who has taken my vaccines and are anti anti-vax: I think this is true and it hurt us.

My exact position, but I'm in the UK. However, you can't have a civilised discussion about any of this, without being labeled anti-vax...

Not sure why downvoted. Do people think this comment indicates you are an antivaxxer? Which part of the comment suggests that?

Obviously I disagree, and I find it strange that you tried so hard to distance yourself from anti-vaxxers and freedom convoy members in your earlier comment when it seems clear that you agree with them.

Great point, it also expresses an anti-vaccine sentiment!

it's a horrible horrible thing, and I think anti-vaxxer parents are awful people who are putting their kids lives at risk.

But I think the only way these people will learn is if some kid they know ends up dead because of their selfishness.

You're inferring a lot from a someone's brief summary of the paper under discussion.

If you disagree with the summary, maybe address it?

I despise anti-vaxxer lunatics, I still found that comment interesting.
