Somehow, it feels better if it's screwed up because I screwed it up rather than paying someone else to screw it up.

I feel like the fact that you took the time to figure out how to fix it makes you at least somewhat worthy.

Am I the only one who don't mind fixing stuff like that. I sometimes do get satisfaction of making things work no matter how trivial.

I feel good until I realize who's paying to fix it.

You get to spend time fixing it rather than waiting it done :p

Nah it's actually the easiest way to get things fixed

My experience is that if you offer to fix it at your own expense, most people will just happily let you.

(That should be "or fix it yourself".)

All the more reason for someone else to work on it, and do it right.

And if something's wrong you can fix it

In fact, one could argue that you’re actually penalized for trying to fix it yourself.

By having you perform a small fix, someone else didn't have to work on that fix, and that person got to fix something else.

Better than asking for big pile of money and give back crap and charge way more for fixes isn't it? :)

you should fix it instead of making excuses

Does that make it somehow better or not worth fixing?

Same here. It is surprising how many times I've done that over the years and people are both surprised how easy it was but easily convince themselves that "it'll be all right" somehow and they'll fix it later...

At least you don't need to worry about them fixing something that doesn't need fixing.

This is one of those things that seems extremely picky to me and at the same time I'm glad that someone out there cares enough about it to fix it.

If fixing the thing itself is easier, and also benefits everyone else, why not?

Agreed, although my reason is more to do with losing the better part of a days work trying to fix it.
