Smart. Honestly, every country should ban Twitter and Facebook. They are a net negative; this century's version of tobacco companies. Arguably worse, as they are a cancer on the entire discourse and well being of society writ large.
Ban everybody who do not agree with mainstream ideology please. It's one and only truth. Google is not evil and Facebook and Twitter are build freedom of speech in mind
I agree, but I am also a fierce critic of what Facebook and Twitter are doing. By doing this they are actually driving many people to even -more- extreme platforms. I am generally not opposed to them banning antivaxxing, and things that are an active threat to safety...but banning the NY Post story was way too far, and Twitter has even doubled down on it by banning the follow up stories. The thing is that their business models rely on them not being held liable for what is posted, yet by curating things which aren't abhorrent or in the interest of public safety they have opened up a massive can of worms of potentially removing their limited liability from user generated content.
While I agree that social media is way too aggressive with moral policing of content, I can still trivially watch any of the morally reprehensible stuff that would be banned from there.
I am starting to think we need to shutdown both Facebook, Twitter and maybe others for six months. At the end of that period, in order to be allowed back on the air, they have to demonstrate technology that does not allow positive feedback loops of hatred to develop on their platforms (as well as other metrics). If they can't demonstrate this functionality they stay off air. We truly don't need the resonant chambers of hatred they facilitate through crappy technology.
The world ran just fine before Twitter and Facebook. Some of the things we are seeing today were made possible by these platforms and were impossible before they existed. Food for thought.
Good. They should ban more people. They should ban whoever they feel like banning, for whatever reason or give no reason at all. They already ban you instantly if you show a nipple.
We should stop pretending like Facebook, YouTube, Twitter et al. are some kind of public good or utility. They are private message boards. Message boards which already decide what you see by showing you an endless stream of content designed to optimize ad revenue.
