Yup, it's a shame that there aren't any USB-C type fit drives. Obviously it's a question of space. But I love it how the USB-A connector is basically now able to house an entire flash drive.
And yet none on the front. So your shoebox full of thumb drives are useless and you have to plug them in from behind.
Just to be clear yes I know USB-C thumb drives exist but they are next to useless because their whole purpose is to shuttle files between devices. Devices that likely don't have USB-C yet.
The only hits I find on google are for a few sandisk drives with terrible amazon reviews reporting they're slow and get searing hot in the drive after only a few seconds of use. I'm kind of surprised sandisk would release that, one reviewer even reports theirs smoking after being inserted into a recent MBP. I'm also a bit surprised nobody has produced a working drive yet? Maybe there's so little demand for thumb drives these days it's just not worth the r&d to accomodate the standard with adequate cooling.
It's unfortunate that there is no Yubikey nano for USB-C yet. I really like the nano form factor, especially because I can't accidentally break a USB port like I could with the normal sized one.
I guess it's really hard to fit all of the electronics in a port as small as USB-C though.
I take it you mean specifically USB-A? I can understand that, but I think I'd be satisfied if they would just put more than four USB-C ports on the thing. That should be the upside of a smaller USB connector, give me a dozen ports since dang near everything uses USB these days.
I just hope the USB port could be of the uniform size of that of USB 2.0, not that of USB type C. I feel small size is not convenient and mechanically weak.
Maybe we'll see one for USB-C some day.
