As a Dutch guy, I'm just curious to hear everyone just butcher the pronounciation :-)

sort by: page size:

Are there different ways to pronounce it? Or did he pronounce it in Dutch?

As an English speaker who knows a bit of German, Dutch basically seems like a random combination of English and German words with a few misspellings thrown in for kicks.

For the English words used in Dutch, do you use Dutch pronunciation, even if the word is spelled the same?

We all know how Dutch people like to pronounce their Gs :)

bonus points if they go for the Frisian pronunciation, "Alvestêdetocht".

Where are you all getting Dutch from? He sounds generic Euro speaking English to me.

Unrelated, but it always amuses me how much Dutch sounds like drunk English ;-)

100% Dutch accent. I wish we could pin it down to a teaching technique, this is just how we sound.

Yes both are pronounceable for the Dutch market. The Dutch name is not pronounceable in English.

I'm not familiar with Dutch, why is it an unfortunate name?

That's an excellent representation of a Dutch accent

German here, can confirm. Dutch sounds like weird German, and as a German you can usually read it, but speaking Dutch is an entirely different thing.

Same. Dutch sounds like unintelligible English to me, which is useful for identifying it as Dutch (once I realize it is, in fact, actually unintelligible).

Dutch is correct.

The same in Dutch.

Sounds Dutch not English.

Haha this had me chuckle as a native Dutch speaker.

I will admit that they nailed the German-Dutch accent.

However, the weird choice to use “translatie” which, while technically is a Dutch word, wasn’t common even back in the period this is supposed to take place and feels more like a lazy translation of… well the English word “translation”, combined with, what I can only describe as “just blurt it out as fast as you can” direction, makes this very comical.

Unfortunate name if you happen to know Dutch.

Dutch.

As a fellow Dutchman I hate how it takes literally just two seconds to hear that the author is Dutch as well just by the accent nearly all of us English speaking Dutch suffer from (conversely he could do the same with my pronunciation of English).

It's like a national shibboleth as impossible to get rid of as herpes.
