You do rely on an algorithms on the story feed and main feed.

Reels are kinda misplaced. They are so short but require so much navigation. Why not just post a short video. Ig live videos are more important and need the first class treatment (a seperate search, a ig live discovery page)

We've tried to improve how people find live video feeds, at shiftpop.com.

I think it's reels as "Youtube Reels" as in short (15-60 second) videos.

Simple video activity isn't enough to establish interestingness in our experience. We'd like to screen "dead" live streams out of lists, but I think there's an easier, social, solution to that problem.

If everyone is videoing and sharing you could crowdsource your own responses. Use some smart AI to trawl other video from the same time and assemble the "me" reel.

Video upload may be instant but the video doesn't get indexed without a review.

To post a video as a non-reel the standard workaround is also putting a picture in the same post. You’ll see some creators with an image that just says “anti-reels slide”.

meta comment about the whole situation:

Do we need to be taking so many photos, videos and short videos (shorts, reels, etc)? Do we need to be sharing all of them?

That's true. Getting the video out for enough people to see is the hard part. Have added Youtube to the list as well!

Thanks David. I agree (esp about the nuggets obv ;) It's a slog going through slide decks and on the few occasions that people have uploaded videos it's hard to make the time to watch them. Is there a "Pocket for Video"?

Would you be willing to also add an explanation of why you put each video up? This could quite easily be abused with selective editing.

Great resource. Why didn't you embed the videos instead of linking to them? Embedding makes it easier for people to see them all in one place?

Hm, more and more video links on HN. Perhaps it is time for a [video] marker for stories?

Interesting way to find social media ready videos.

The new Insta360 GO 2 would probably work really well for these type of videos:

It's similar like Instagram. In your video feed, it would mix some promoted videos.

So just embed a video within the article, or stick it at the top.

Hm, a search across all videos or at least a series of videos could be a valuable feature.

Thanks for the feedback. I am trying to fix the problem of the missing videos. As far as search; I will work on that next.

I agree this can be a bit annoying, some artists/bands have better results than others. I'll look into sorting out videos that appear as duplicates and replacing them with more videos. Thanks for the feedback.
