I can't even find any press articles about the Google incident.

Given what we know so far, there's no indication that Google is associated with this at all.

I used to work at Google, as stated in the last line of the article. I'm not getting any information from Googlers that isn't publicly visible.

The article does not provide an answer and simply poses the question. The fact that Google does not disclose any useful information makes it difficult to figure out what really happened.

I find stories like the one linked incredibly frustrating. There's no detail whatsoever about what actually happened, so we're basically in a he-said-she-said between google and the regulator. If google's done something wrong I want to hear about what actually happened!

I guess fortunately for Google, it appears there's no merit to the accusation?

Google quite rightfully cares very little about what Hacker News has to say anything.

Wow!! My company made HackerNews! Yeah, what an arseache it's been - and just checked and nothing has been actioned still despite the negative coverage. Google truly don't give a shit I'm afraid.

It doesn't make much sense that Google would give a shit about any of this, so I'm guessing there is "more" to this story, as there often is.

I don't see any claims made by Google in that first piece, every interviewee seem to be unrelated to them.

No comment from Google as to why they do this.

Google has no obligation to be anyone's mouthpiece or loudspeaker, and we have no information on whether any files were deleted.

From the article: "Google declined to comment."

Neither this article, nor any of the ones it links to provide any Google sources or statements from Google staff. Oh, the irony.

The article presents only one side of the story.

I have never heard of Google being accused of something similar in the past. Does anyone have any pointers to similar incidents?

But no individual at Google felt that even an anonymous tip to a reporter about the program was warranted? Doesn't add up.

Not a single scrap of information about the facts of the case. We should just infer that Google are evil and did something wrong that they deserve to pay for.

I'm really surprised that nobody from Google has made a statement yet. Even if the detective work was wrong, Google has suffered a huge PR blow. This story is all over HN, all over G+ (at least the HN circle), all over my Twitter stream (which includes some top tech journos from South Africa) and is slowly being republishing on various blogs.

Google needs to respond now!

You haven't told us whether Google was involved

It does not mention what Google's response was, or if they have complied with the order.
