It looks interesting, but it might be better to do a little more handholding on getting users started, instead of just having the list of directions. Maybe handpick a market and put it up top and ask people to predict on it, before even registering. When they want to register an opinion, let them, and then show them what they can do beyond that.
It looks really good, and seems very simple and intuitive. You should add Polls or ramifications or both. Imagine if there are 3 options to make a task. You should be able to show those three options, and let the people vote on the one that should be made.
Just a thought. Good luck.
There are many good suggestions in the comments.
I'd actually put out some roadmap to the site, and suggest that it is "beta" and is under development, and maybe create an uservoice page and link that from the roadmap, noting that new ideas are welcome, and can be voted on.
People like to feel involved in something they like. If they stayed for this long, they may like this, and you may get a hang of what people are missing from the site. (but don't implement every suggestion, just read them)
I was thinking more along the lines of a public dialog, where a user could post a comment like "This is a great idea! However, if you could make it do X and Y, it would be even better!"
Getting access to people's contact information would be useful at a later point in the process, but early on I think immediate feedback would be the most beneficial. Even something along the lines of a HN thread like this one would be enough engagement at first. In fact, perhaps that is even sufficient :)
You are probably right that it doesn't make sense right now, just because a lot of the good suggestions in this post are more pressing.
The reason I suggest it is that it would give you access to a number of users right off the bat which could be good for getting feedback from a large group of people who are actually going to use your app for their actual to-do list (rather than the informal sort of playing around with it I just did for a few minutes). In the end, it really depends on where you want to go with this.
Looks really great.. However I'd recommend putting a "Learn more" button, that describes the goal(s) of the platform. For example what can people post and what they cannot. I really would like to use this service but I'd also want it be clean and specific, so I know what to expect here.
Looks great. It would be awesome if you could just enter a URL to start discussions with.
As for paying accounts - maybe keep 3-5 free design feedback free per user. That way people can try it, get some value from it, and the professionals who want to keep using more (and wanting to store old feedback) will want to pay.
Also the idea of a simple voting system, as the site grows that would be really useful. And a comment for people working on it to say what they're building and how they're solving the problem would be cool.
I like the idea. Though, in its current form, probably not enough to pay.
As a suggestion, I think the site could be little more fun/game-y instead of looking like a list of articles. And maybe make the current hot/popular prediction be the most prominent thing on the page asking 'Do you think <link>X</link> or <link>Y</link> will happen", so a new person on the site immediately has something to see and do.
This is a really good idea, and a nice implementation. Like jackowayed said, a better presentation would help with first impressions. Some kind of recipe sharing would be cool, too.
Yes, this! Add some example lists to it, and reset it every hour or so. This way when they sign up, they don't just see an empty list, but already have ideas what to do with it.
Maybe even add some example lists for new registered user (you could use that to add a little user guide).
Yeah I do like the idea, to me it is better than having some database for it or the likes. Going to compile an issue list of what's come up in the feedback and start looking into making those changes.
Both great suggestions! I think the weighting will be dependent on getting more engagement on the site overall, which is a tricky thing early on, but working on it!
I really like the idea of the site, and the mission to limit the number of things on it. Too many options, and I just get choice paralysis.
However, to be frank, I don't know who you are, so why should I trust your recommendations? I wouldn't mind if you were the only person to decide what gets posted, but I would like to see content from users, primarily tags, votes, and comments. This might also increase user engagement.
You could also make it "social" if you wanted. Allow users to publicly commit to doing a certain tutorial X hours per day/week, and you track that from when they click through your site to the tutorial site, and then they check back in when they're done. Or it could be complete honor system. I wouldn't worry too much about people lying, because really, they'd just be hurting themselves.
