The US doesn't really have a working legal system for things happening outside its borders. In fact as a non US citizen outside the US you don't have much protection at all.
The US legal system is only accessible by citizens of the USA.
It should be of no surprise then, that citizens of other countries have no ability to protect themselves from over-reaching laws and actions by the US government.
Not being based in the US doesn't mean that you can't be criminally prosecuted in the US or, for that matter any jurisdiction that takes an interest and has a generous belief in the extra-territorial applicability of its laws.
Bad thing you're not American.
Regarding themselves, there are domestic rules, regulations and laws.
For you, as a foreigner, no such protections apply.
