I've enabled VoiceOver for testing but had not seen that gesture, thanks for the pointer. It is useful but slightly awkward as you need both fingers to retain contact with the screen while rotating, which is challenging for a 360 degree rotation :)
While we're talking about voice overs, let's talk about the one that actually matters - try turning on Voice Over mode and navigating the app the way a visually impaired user would. It is completely and utterly unusable.
You should try VoiceOver and the gestures that come with it, it's mind blowing how well it works. I've found plenty of usability improvements that are really easy to make so that VoiceOver works flawlessly in apps I've worked on.
Unfortunately I don't see how a system like this could be accessible using the native accessibility tools like voiceover, and so IMO is a non-starter. The FAQ doesn't seem to address it.
Do you use a Mac? If so try using Voiceover. It takes some getting used to and if you’re used to being a speedwhiz on the keyboard…you may find it frustratingly slow but I found it helpful when I lost use of one of my hands for a week.
If the carrier hasn't fucked with the defaults, you should be able to launch VoiceOver with a tripple-press on the home button. I don't know how it works with the new home-button-less devices, I dont have any of those.
Not sure, there are some tools to help, but I'm not front end dev and haven't used them. However, you can install a screen reader and try the browsing shortcuts on your website.
Voice over is installed by default on Macs, NVDA is free and open source for Windows, and Orca is on Linux.
Windows also has the Narrator screen reader built in, and in Windows 10, Narrator is a decent screen reader IMO. (Disclosure: I used to be on the Windows accessibility team at Microsoft, where I worked on Narrator.) To enable Narrator, press Ctrl+Win+Enter. Narrator has a built-in tutorial (not written by me) to help you get started.
Mac and iOS has VoiceOver built in. To enable it on Mac, press Command+F5. On iOS, you may be able to triple-press the home button, on devices that have one. Failing that, you can find it in Settings.
Android has TalkBack built in. You can find it somewhere in Settings; the specifics are device-dependent.
