I figured, I wasn't assuming you were trying to be deceptive just the comment made me curious if someone had completely wiped reference to freenode from the wiki.
I've been part of a community which forked in the past and it was so cringe (at least to me) for one of the sides to keep explaining the origins and such on each and every presentation even 10 years later.
Anyone who knew Freenode knows the story already, and does any newcomer need to know, on that very blog post? I'd say no.
My comment was a rather tongue-in-cheek take of how Libera is carrying on the spirit of Freenode, and we should just consider Freenode a random other network that somehow got Freenode's name by accident.
The link was circulating in IRC. It was pasted to a channel I'm following with a comment "changes in Freenode". Looked interesting enough to be a HN submission. I've no knowledge how freenode is actually managed. Apologies if it wasn't meant to go out. Seems that I don't have an option to delete it.
It's not hyperbolic, it was the literal truth, and all of it is relevant because the question implies they do not know what Freenode was.
The staff are not secret. They have names on the network. Those nicks are published (at least on the old site, not sure if that has been transferred to new yet) and well-known.
The one guy who's name everyone knows is undisputably trying to profit from a non-profit organization, which he previously lied and said he would not, and in so doing has caused the worst disruption possible. So that proves that names don't actually help us.
