Opposition? The true CPSU successor has recently won an election there, scoring up to 146% of the vote in some regions.

sort by: page size:

I wonder how much votes would CIS (ex-USSR) get if it were separated from "(Rest of) Europe" which is currently getting majority of votes.

You are correct. This is in a former soviet state.

More like Georgia. In Kazakhstan the threat are socialists only

Just Russia being Soviet Union successor when it's convenient and claiming to be a new state when it's not.

Success in Belarus would embolden opposition in the Central Asia though, yet another group of Russian allies.

Russia is also winning.

Well, there is no denying that the region is in fact currently governed by Russia. Whether that is right is another question.

It seems like it is, but it's not new either.

Eg. This was co-ed with their president 11 years ago: https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/kazakhstans-steady-p...

Many signs that they have good-will for democracy, but I don't think it's easy in their position ( member of the CSTO and in Russia's "sphere of influence").

I have seen signs that they aren't just a puppet of Russia for example and I wasn't sure what was going on. But the article somewhat explained it.

That's true but it still is a Russian puppet state at present.

What a dumb angle. No one can dispute they are the successors of the USSR. what is the alternative, having every single ex soviet republic there?

Most people recognize Russia to be the successor state to the Soviet Union, much like how they recognize that the Fifth French Republic is the successor state to the Fourth French Republic.

Are you forgetting Belarus?

At least Russia has rigged elections to pretend Russia is a democratic country.

the Belarus government is very popular in Russia ;-)

Why is it so Russia dominated? This was also visible in the article. Any particular reason or just coincidence?

Russia has no shortage of top-notch democracies next door.

Russia has succession rights to USSR, while SFRY was dissolved without successor.

Can people from the periphery still get power in Russia? In the Soviet Union, many did:

Kaganovich, Khrushchev, Brezhnev, Chernenko, Gorbachev were from Ukraine or had Ukrainian ties.

Stalin, Beria, Putin were/are from Georgia or had Georgian ties.

all republics dominated by muslim minorities voted for the ruling party with rates above 95%; check caucasian republics, tatarstan, bashkir..apparently minnorities in russia love the ruling party more than russians themselves.
