What cultures are they not common in? I know you aren't talking about China, at least. Definitely not Japan, not most of East Asia. Probably not western Europe either, and it's pretty common in North America.

Have you ever been to Asia? It's extremely common in China/Korea/Japan

As the other commenter mentioned, perhaps in the US it is fairly common. I’m not in the US and it’s not common here.

Depends on the country. They are very common outside of the U.S., but seemingly a lot less common in the U.S..

That is an US phenomenon though.

It can be hardly seen in European countries, and I bet other continents are hardly different.
