In the MidWest, the garage is often for a hobby/storage, to the point a car won't actually fit in it. You have plenty of driveway space, so you just park there.
I live in the Midwest, and no one in my area parks their car in the driveway unless the garage already has a car in it. The lucky ones use their third car garage for a workshop/storage area.
Most people with garages don't park in the garage, they park in front of the garage. But you can still plug the car in when you're parked in front of the garage.
Are garages really used for storing cars much, now that they don't need as much protection from bad weather? I don't know about the US, but in the UK many (most?) people already keep their cars on the driveway, and use their garage for other purposes. E.g. as a storage area, a workshop, or a utility room.
Most people in the world don't have garages. Even if they have one on the house they live in, there may be more cars in the family than can fit in the garage.
In the UK it's quite common for people to convert their garage into an additional bedroom or office, since most people don't keep their car in there and just use it as storage.
Here in the UK lots of people have garages but I'd actually guess its more common to use them for storage than to keep a car in. Everyone I know who has an electric car keeps it on the drive with an outside charging point.
