Looks like they learned from the Pixel 5, the 6 has almost double the battery capacity.

That's slightly larger than the 3200 mAh battery that my Note 3 has and I have no issues with battery life.

Granted, the Nexus 6 has a larger and higher resolution screen. But it also runs a cleaner version of Android which I expect would be less power hungry.

The battery in the new phones is pretty spectacular, at least according to reviews, even when comparing it to last year's models.

On the other hand, my 6, same purchase day, can barely survive a full day of light use, and requires additional charging throughout the day if I'm calling or texting much

Funny. Just upgraded to 6.4.1 and got another hour of battery life.

As I understand it, the proof is how tightly they pack the pixels. If you need a stronger backlight to illuminate the screen, and more power to push all the pixels, it stands to reason that a more detailed screen e.g. 1080p instead of 720p, in the same form factor, is going to use considerably more battery. It's part of the reason why the iPhone 6 does better in battery life tests without gimmicks to extend the battery life as the phone hits Low Battery warnings, the screen's resolution is just over 720p instead of the Nexus 5's comparable 1080p screen. This difference is highlighted by how the Nexus 5 had a 2300 mAh battery while the iPhone 6 has merely 1810 mAh, 20% smaller. In battery tests for the 1080p Nexus 5, under L, it lasts roughly 8 hours. The iPhone 6 gets about the same playing movies, maybe two hours longer otherwise. I'd argue the screen plays a huge role in this.

Pretty sure this is down to increased battery size.

Regardless, they said the phone gets 2 hours better battery life. That's pretty remarkable.

How do you use your phone, that you get less than a single day's battery life from the current Nexus 6? I can easily get 1-2 days use out of mine.

It's still using more battery

My Galaxy S6 continues to shine at taking about 24 hours to charge for about 2 hours life. Fuck I hate Samsung and their bloatware.

The only thing wrong with my Note 8 at this point is battery life. I'd gladly have dealt with 80% charge over its entire life in order to still have a good battery life now.

Nexus 5x vastly improved battery life over the 5.

I saw a report from someone that upgraded where the battery life went from < 3 hours to > 6 hours.

It was >~300mAh smaller and unsurprisingly did not last as long -at least initially- Likely due to the 12’s 5G modem, so it may have changed with their LTE fallback optimization.

IIRC that phone had a worse battery life than the regular sized device due to the screen.

Twice the battery capacity, but still rated at 10 hours. That new display must really drink the juice.

But they decreased the batter size on the iPhone 12 due to power efficiency gains, so battery life is approximately the same unfortunately.

This. Battery life on my Nexus 6P is just fine, at least equal to my friends with their iPhone 6 Pluses. My Note 4 also had solid battery life before that. For the most part, modern Android phones are much better than their predecessors in terms of battery. The UX is also quite nice as well.

When I got my Pixel 7 Pro I was shocked at how bad the battery life was, even without google play services. (came from a 5a) I love the phone, but the battery life makes me regret my purchase almost every day.

Then my coworker got the Pixel 8 Pro, and it has WAY worse battery life than my 7 Pro, he even went and got a new one at the store because it was so bad it had to be a fault, but no. It just is absolute garbage.
