It’s not really about infrastructure like roads and stuff. It’s about “infrastructure.”

You know that not all infrastructure is bridges and roads, right?

In the U.S., apparently “infrastructure” means “roads”. Hardly a mention of trains, no mentions of optical fibers, electric grids, etc.

Infrastructure is infrastructure

I mean infrastructure is what everyone points to when one asks “what am I even paying taxes for?” Often even the short hand of “roads”.

Infrastructure 'aint just gonna build itself.

Not really for infrastructure though? Still neat.

It has nothing do with physical infrastructure and everything to do with social infrastructure - the people and organizations that are located there.

And the weather.

isn't infrastructure an investment, not a cost, tho?

Most of that is infrastructure, not industry.

It isn't but I thought we were talking about infrastructure (there are clearly political factors at work there too of course).

TBH that's the American definition of infrastructure anyways.

Infrastructure is certainly not unambiguous here.

Yeah, I'm saying maintaining infrastructure is not a political priority, because it doesn't win elections.

Not that the people working in infrastructure maintenance waste the money.

I was thinking mainly of infrastructure...

Also, infrastructure does not lead to economic growth. Quite the other way around, really.

The idea that we shouldn't build infrastructure because it will get used is one of the more silly talking points out there right now.

And road infrastructure isn’t? It takes up more land and needs more maintenance than rail

Not everything has to make money, especially public infrastructure.

What sort of infrastructure?
