Yes good thing Merkel did that. But they also are crazy austrians and crazy anti-nuclears.

"Syrians good, Greeks bad, let's breed Neo-Nazis with austerity so Syrians bad soon too. Oh and more coal." Is that really net good?!

The new renewable policies they passed last year seem positive:

https://www.renewableenergymagazine.com/panorama/germany-app...

As long as they don't get voted out and replaced by far right goons with conspiracy theories about heat pumps then Germany should do okay.

It's fine, they buy German electricity to compensate and then blame the Germans for creating so much CO2 /s

Yeah... terrible. Twice the carbon intensity of nuclear-only!

Meanwhile, Germany has half the carbon intensity of California, 1/4 that of Poland, and 1/7 Australia. With lower prices than France, and with no unsolved long-term storage problems.

Plus they arguably single-handedly subsidized solar power to where it is today, I. e. close to be competitive with natural gas.

And how they’re suffering! Unemployment at almost 4%, single most dynamic economy in Europe, taking in one million refugees with comparatively little brouhaha (10% voting for the xenophobes in this year’s election, vs. 8000 refugees and 49% for Trump in the US)

These Greens have surely been ruining Germany.

Crippling and -quite seriously- anti-climate… Good job, Merkel etc.

Germany is exporting huge amounts of electricity to France and Austria because they fucked up.

The same Germany where the "Green party" pushed to close nuclear power plants and buy more gas from the Russians. Truly clown world.

To be fair, Germans have themselves to blame for decades of horrible energy politics.

Now they are in panic mode. Can't really say I feel sorry for them.

If that is a thing that bothers you, one of the people that made sure that the Bundeswehr never recovers was that corrupt von der Leyen. She was MoD, funnelled a bunch of money to her McKinsey son, and then went on to become the head of European Commission. With someone like that at the helm of the EU, you don't need enemies.

The sibling comment mentions Germany's nuclear policy. It's worth noting that Germany at the EU tried to lobby against nuclear to deprive France out of EU support for Green energy. They have an irrational hate for nuclear energy, but it's not limited to nuclear energy. Somehow the once antiwar Green party has become the party of warmongering and coal lobbying.

Germany during the Kohl administration shut killed fibre optics infrastructure projects to fight the influence of public TV and promote cable TV. [1]

So this is at least 4 decades of ideological mismanagement. I'd say the respect for German infrastructure is the work that has been done after the war up until then.

well merkel basically ruined our energy marekt. not because the shutdown of nuclear. (btw. I hate nuclear)

but because the market did bid for a merkel win, where he extended the nuclear energy marekt (or she wanted to). so our energy industry betted that they save money if they do not be active by going renewables. their bid was good because now we subsidize our renewables heavily.

the eeg started way diffently than the 2014 eeg version and it got worse overtime, with all the newer versions.

also the csu (bayern party) actually dismisses on-shore wind power completly 10-H-law, besides no sane reason. merkal and the cdu/csu are not PRO renewables they just want to keep their power, which they would quickly loose by making turns. also merkel mostly did "rushing" things in the past because things that should've been done 10 years prior, weren't done. see our car industy. (which will be rushed by going all in electric, because we lost 10 years on the run)

Oh please. Cheap Energy is what made Germany the industrial powerhouse of Europe. Getting gas from Russia was one of the best things Merkel did for her country and its citizens.

This observation is detached from reality in so many ways it should be a copypasta.

Merkel is not even in office anymore and you can be sure Macron wouldn’t be either if it wasn’t for French nuclear power and that he just won an election before these decisions.

Germany doesn't even know if they will make it through the winter properly.

The claim that deflation is largely accepted is wrong and in conflict with EU leadership statement and goals.

A segment of the EU is cheering on the decision due to the war first and foremost. The environmental benefits are laughable because they have already turned to restarting coal plants that were previously shut down.

No, the youth are great but this is a deluded view.

They subsidize electric cars, and thereby coal power plants. Outstanding! Go Germany, go EU!

Germany on the other hand is drowning in their own dirty coal and subducts to green party/terrorists

Yea because if it weren't for these people, Germany would have invested in Nuclear or secure better natural gas than from Russia (Algeria?). Nord Stream 1 was hastily negotiated with the devil. Devil then invaded Crimea to secure the oil fields. Then 8 years later, they did it again with Nord Stream 2! The devil used it as a leverage to take big chunks of Ukraine. Trump warned them (as much as I loathe the guy, he was right, unsophisticatedly but eerily accurate): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O24rulfjA8U

Environmentalists also invested in Solar energy in Germany. It has to be the dumbest idea ever, solar power in Germany is like 10% as efficient as Western USA. It is one of the worst places in Europe to stick solar panels. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_power_in_Germany

In general, Environmentalists do not understand the difference between gardening and farming. It's the Greta crowd that's going to lead this world towards mass starvation of humans. They have no solutions, only blind clueless activism.

They also "pulled out" of solar early. I have idea how anyone can make sense of German policies. They seem to be working solely on the basis of emotion. The outcome is a disastrous policy that created one of the highest energy prices for consumers for no good reason.

The Greens in Germany seem to be hell bent on de-industrializing Germany. They hate nuclear power and they hate all fossil fuels, but want to buy fracking LNG from the USA and fire up brown coal plants that were previously shut down to shove it to Putin. The outcome seems to be mass bankruptcies in what seems to be the social fabric of Germany, while getting a lot less energy for the same price.

Honestly the way Germany has handled this crisis, shows how crappy the greens are.

Any wing will agree that Germany's energy policy has been bad. They shut down their nuclear production and replaced it with lignite.

Germany Federal Government has done way too much.

They shouldn't have done anything, but instead they completely unnecessarily taxed the crap out of everyone.

And yet nothing has been achieved (maybe there's slightly more particle polution due to the shutdown of nuclear power plants). Probably more than $1tn has been plundered over last decade without any benefit to the average voter.

Yeah, probably. The moment Germans started on EU level to push natural gas (which burns into co2) as green and push zero emission nuclear as not green, I stopped believing they are more than Russian puppets or useful idiots.
