I avoid iCloud problems by not using iCloud. Seems to be a lot more trouble than it’s worth!

I refuse to use icloud. Every few months I tranfer to an external HD via USB.

Solution: Don't use iCloud.

It's nagging me because I don't use iCloud.

I avoid everything iCloud. First thing I disable.

iCloud is widely considered to be troublesome by many different developers.

Same for me. I don't use iCloud, but I still use OSX

You don’t use iCloud Drive, do you?

I stick with iCloud myself.

This can’t happen if you don’t use iCloud. It’s a security feature supposedly for the user, but is badly implemented and annoying.

Absolutely true. As a user, I have never had any problems using iCloud.

I don't use iCloud for anything. Dropbox gets my pictures, Google has my contacts, 1Password handles my passwords, etc.

I say this as an Apple fan who uses almost exclusively their devices: iCloud is hot garbage. It mostly works if you stick to the default settings and use it for nothing but passive device-backup and photo-backup for a single iPhone. Anything outside of that is a mine-field of login errors, sync issues, totally unconsidered use-cases, functionality that's simply broken (not just under special conditions; flatly broken), etc.

Unfortunate, but perhaps a useful learning experience.

I disable iCloud on all of my Apple devices. Instead, I just make regular backups myself and tolerate different recent content on each device until synced with my Mac, which is backed up as well.

This looks like a very useful utility, but why would you use iCloud if problems like this are this frequent? Compared to Dropbox, for instance?

Why not to use iCloud? It handles backups and sync.

I use iCloud

I use iCloud instead and it works great.

I use iCloud for storage. It’s worked great for me. I’ve never had a problem with it. It wasn’t eye opening to me that the author doesn’t use iCloud.

This is a HUGE problem.

Well, you can choose not to use iCloud for that reason (as some of us do).

A bigger problem is that Apple deliberately locks up iDevices so it's hard to get your data off them using only local means, particularly if you don't also want to buy an Apple laptop just to do it.
