This doesn't ban discussion of the sort we're having here.

Having a discussion about it is still allowed and in good style.

I don't think your censorship and invoking the site's authority to shut down conversations because you don't agree contributes to thoughtful discussion.

Yet here you are having an intellectual discussion, without using it to wage a political battle.

Strange agenda here. This conversation isn't about those things, and isn't about censorship.

Yes it does, as long as the discussion doesn't veer into political questions, which can happen in surprising and dismaying ways at times.

Bruh, there's room for objective discussion of murky facts and figures without name calling.

It is possible to discuss a political topic without the discussion becoming a "political or ideological battle".

It's definitely challenging, but it is possible.

Let's not devolve into the quelling of intellectual discussion as a social issue, "bad faith" etc.

We need to be able to talk about them, but it doesn't need to be here. There's value in places where you know you can come to discuss certain categories of things and avoid others. That is what's going on here.

Don't paint us with a broad brush, there are many represented opinions here and we are having a healthy discussion.

And that's OK because discussions tend to lean in different direction, very often, and before you know it you are talking about something completely different. If you are sticking to the topic and have something really important to add, don't worry, moderators won't get in the way.

There are plenty of places like TheMotte where you can discuss this. We don't need to discuss every topic on every site.

Please don't drag the discussion down to this level.

But the talk-page discussion of what is supportable and what belongs on those pages should not be censored by political opinion.

It seems like there's a conversation we're not having here, and a few people should not be allowed to force us to not have it.

I'm explicitly saying it's not a problem as he claims and should be discussed, and deliberately gave the reasons why it's an interesting discussion.

That's not irony.

Not interested in that discussion? You can collapse the thread using the [-] button.

I disagree. It is permitted, but it’s important to tread carefully and have a nuanced discussion that is respectful of other points of view.

It doesn't seem to usually devolve into arguments (heated exchanges), but it does tend to include debates. Just because not everyone agrees with you (or even each other) doesn't mean the topic isn't worth discussing, or that the comments are uncivil.

Right, but the mods here don't allow heated debates on controversial subjects. They view them as pointless or even harmful. Further, they seem to have accepted a sort of broken windows theory of moderation that says that any such discussion has to be stopped, lest it leak out into other threads.

I think that's disastrously wrong on all counts.
