Special thanks to “ns.reddit.com” for No Suggestions mode!

Absolutely. I'd like to add that the killer feature for me (well, aside from the good quality links and discussion) is "noprocrast" and that I'm particularly grateful for the relatively recent removal of the "ignore" link. It's all very much appreciated.

This site is a wonderful source. Thank you all for your submissions and discussions.

Your help has been invaluable building my site: https://snafuhall.com/

Widely sourced links to the news, updated once per day: No Doomscrolling. No comments, so no flame wars.

We do not practice "Cognitive Hygiene", we'll link and read anything; 90% of everything is horse shit anyway. We aim to have something to piss off anyone, every day.

I came back to read through the comments and realised I never actually complimented you on a job well done!

I’ve bookmarked the site and will definitely use it for my next project—I always find picking a name and domain a pain.

I stumbled upon this site a couple of years ago--maybe more? I don't add much to discussions, and embarrassing use it as therapy. Thanks guys for not being too hard on me.

For so long, I didn't even know how certain features work. I still haven't even read the rules. That would probally explain why forever I didn't know what you guys were talking about with down/up votes. The arrows weren't on my screen. I guess I was banned? They are now there, but I wish the only arrow was a up arrow. Never saw the need for the down arrow?

I only access this site when I'm on my iPad. I guess it's just habit.

I never come back to a post, unless I ask a question. Just don't like to argue, and unless we are talking about the poor, or animal abuse, I don't want to get all riled up.

I did look into this making a HN type site, but haven't succeeded. It would not clone HN. It would just be for a niche group of people, interested in old mechanical watches-- basically their repair. When I found out this site was built with lisp, I immediately got a book on lisp. I still haven't got through it either. See the pattern; I don't follow through.

I can honesly state, I believe this is the best site on the Internet, and I'm so glad Paul Graham decided to build it, and not change it up too much. Thank you Mr. Graham!

Thanks!

It's great that you don't need to sign in or do captchas.

OP- Thank you for linking to the less user-hostile "old" reddit portal.

Thanks, this is great for not giving the site traffic.

This is excellent. Very useful with plenty of polished features! Kudos

Now I don't need to worry about getting shadowbanned! I figured out where the line is. Thank you for showing me `The Way`!

You positive[ly] useless nerds.

Even though what you ended up doing wasn't my first choice, I'm way happier with it than I would have been with removing noreferrer from the abusive sites.

Oh, I hadn't looked at the page since then. That is great to hear. Thank you!

Thanks for the compliment masklinn!

Paying users can turn off the button on PR descriptions (and free users have some flexibility on where it goes). I hope you understand we can't provide the service free and secretly :D

Thanks! The idea was to keep it stupidly simple, and not limit what people could ask for / search for. Had a couple of people ask if non web dev topics were allowed - to which my reply was "of course!"

Love the UI and the auto-quotes on empty posts :)

Thanks for that. You’re about the only website I trust not to turn on me these days.

Great work! I love when organic user behaviors are recognized and made first class features.

Allow me to emphasize something from the Show HN Guidelines[1]:

> Be respectful. Anyone sharing creative work is making a contribution, however modest.

> Ask questions out of curiosity. Don't cross-examine.

> Instead of "you're doing it wrong", suggest alternatives. When someone is learning, help them learn more.

> When something isn't good, you needn't pretend that it is. But in that case, consider saying nothing.

The comments section of Show HN posts are not an invitation for you to tear someone apart for your own self-aggrandizing glory. If you want to be helpful, be constructive. If you don't want to be helpful, don't bother.

Thanks, glad people appreciate that. (I feel occasional pangs of regret that literally the first thing under my salutation is the permission reminder, but it always struck me as the right call. I used to put an unsubscribe link in the first sentence, too, but people told me it was way too easy to hit on an iPhone accidentally, so now I think the boilerplate says something like "Scroll way to the bottom and one click will take care of it.")

And unlike many other sites (or this Canadian program), it has a nice "say no to all" button and still takes you to the article, I see no problem with any of that.

Our entire team was making sure we'd give immediate response to any user who asked what was going on while we didn't have the down page up, so most people were pretty happy:

Virtually no one will even notice, except iPhone users, who probably won’t notice either. But the ones who do notice will smile quietly and thank you for making their web experience just a little easier

Yep: I have to say I always notice and say a silent prayer of thanks when this happens :)
