There are no credible rumors that the 2022 SE will be anything like the Mini. Most likely is that the SE will get iPhone 13 internals, mainly SOC and camera, and no external changes at all. It’s just a spec bump.

sort by: page size:

They are going to upgrade SE which will be the same size as the current SE 2020 as rumors suggest. And while Mini is smaller, SE still counts as a small phone.

Yeah, I read rumors about the iPhone Mini when the SE 2 launched. Glad I waited!

Maybe, but mini version will be phased out in iPhone 14 lineup. Besides, iPhone SE is way cheaper, and I suspect part of its success is due to pricing.

I bought the SE2 last year and would have paid the difference to get a Mini instead if they were available at the same point in time.

EDIT: I had heard the rumors but you can't expect people to delay their phone purchase several months based on a rumor

as someone who owns se 2020- 13 mini was my next planned upgrade (because of camera & like the colors).. when my current se dies or at least battery life decreases substantially that is.. which it doesn't! :D

They didn't cancel it . iPhone 13 mini is still available.

I would not be surprised if iPhone SE 2024 would be an iPhone Mini form factor.

This iPhone SE 2020 (and this new one) both have a smaller screen than the 12/13 mini. The mini line underperformed because it was in direct competition with the SE, not because people didn't want small screen. If that was the case, they wouldn't buy the SE either. You can see this very well in the sales share by model from this article: https://9to5mac.com/2021/07/15/iphone-12-line-accounted-for-....

not that there's any reason you should trust my opinion, but I would doubt it. the mini is much nicer than the SE in pretty much every way. the bezels on the SE belong in 2017. the 12 mini has a much larger screen and a smaller chassis. if I were willing to spend $750 on a phone, there's no way I would cross-shop the two.

I was under the assumption the SE is a budget phone line to target the $500 price range, while the mini is a premium phone with better features targeting the $1k price range.

Also, the 13 mini is far superior to the SE in terms of form factor. The 2020 SE is still way too big.

If I understand that article correctly, given the rumored size, it will be more like a budget iPhone 8, than a new SE.

They release the SE (2020) in April. So they hit that smaller but latest phone market, and then they are tapping in again only 6 months later with the 12 mini. A lot of people with the SE (2020) will want to upgrade for the speed, camera, even smaller body etc.

As a small phone fan I’m hoping the SE2 hasn’t cannibalized much of the small phone market. I’d like the mini to succeed. But, I also bought an SE and won’t be upgrading, as the SE us great and has Touchid.

Nah. Lots of people I know have the a 2020 iPhone SE - both for its size and more importantly for the fingerprint reader. I have one and love it. I would consider the 13 mini - but I prefer fingerprint vs faceid.

I suspect they just want more people to buy the more expensive pro devices, and there is no pro mini. You'd almost need entirely separate marketing for the mini to try to separate it from the rest as "interesting" and I suspect they knew this and didn't find it worth the time, effort, nor cost. Stick to "it exists" marketing and if people want it, they'll get it.

They do, in fact, have separate marketing for the SE though. Which is why I suspect the mini isn't necessarily going away, but they do need to update the SE beyond just the SoC, so the next SE (probably multiple revisions in the next several years) are likely to be based on the current mini. The SE does get underlying hardware bumps, what keeps them cheaper is they're using old tooling for the chassis, and other hardware that's been in production for a while (display, camera, battery, etc). Now that the mini has been around mostly unchanged through 2 revisions, they could definitely continue using that tooling for future SE models.

And I'll be honest...an SE based on the mini with iPhone 15 (or whatever they end up calling it) performance specs? I probably wouldn't pass on that.

Gutted that the iPhone mini is essentially dead. I don't want a phone any bigger.

I'll hang onto my 13 Mini for as long as I can, hopefully they will update the SE to basically be the new Mini.

The current 2022 SE is the same size and form factor.

Yeah, I'm pretty happy with the latest SE model. Absolutely do not want a phone the size of the new flagship models. Prefer touchid to PIN or faceid, which rules out the minis.

I like small phones, and the SE was one of my choices up until recently. I thought I was going to wait for the iphone 14 mini but it doesn't seem to happen. So I decided to bite on the iPhone 13 mini. So far it's better than the SE 2nd I've been using since the release.

The 13 mini is a bit smaller, the battery is significantly better, the camera is also a lot better and the portrait is available to mostly everything (not just a human face for the SE). It has all the good things I've been wanting. The only thing missing is the finger print reader, but the iOS 15.4 allows us to use with a mask on. So far the FaceID seems accurate and convenient most of the time.

If you're using an SE 2nd, consider a 12 mini or 13 mini.
