I dread the day when they actually go for 4chan. While it's being heavily attacked especially in recent weeks, it's still by far the bigest place to get neutral information and discussion.
As far as I know 4chan people were trolling the media and they succeeded. The result is both funny and scary. The scary part is that random people's lives are harmed because of some innocent photo or gesture. This insanity stems not only from media but also the new culture. Hopefully when going back to normality we will not swing too much to the other side.
4chan is one of the most popular websites out there, clearly that is a sign that people do want that freedom. What for me is even more shocking is that young people browse the boards in public and it's a mainstream discussion.
You may not recall, but 4chan was one of the greatest disseminators of information and a huge spawning ground for all kinds of content prior to the emergence of more mainstream platforms. It was also fucking disgusting.
People will always find something to be offended about, and it's sad that we as a society have let this "weaponisation of offence" grow unhindered and some people have even encouraged it.
I feel sorry for people who do things like this, only because if https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=21833377 is any indication, 4chan is about to make his life very very miserable.
4chan has been responsible for turning so many kids into racists using humor. I remember a whole period in like 2010 when there was a — before 4chan I used to see black people as “black person in a suit”, now I see black people as “terribly racist caricature”. I would hate to see it go but boy is that place the true breeding ground for hate.
