Sounds like Vimeo will be sold for scraps in a year or two.

sort by: page size:

Vimeo is dying. There is no way they can stay afloat abusing their tiny and shrinking user base with an increasingly exorbitant pricing.

Vimeo rocks. But how are they going to survive? :(

Vimeo really screwed up by never diversifying or extending their product well.

Now they're cutting R&D to focus on pushing their barely used, mediocre service. Doesn't seem like they have a bright future.

Vimeo would just take over.

Yes this totally seems like an opportunity for Vimeo which recently IPO'd* to clean up.

* not a shareholder

I think the proof is in the pudding. Vimeo has been the #2 video sharing platform for a long time and are basically exiting the creator market because it's costing them money.

Poor vimeo, this could be troublesome for them.

welp! time to forget about Vimeo... forever that is...

Why would anyone buy them? Video hosting is already commoditized, and Vimeo barely has a public brand. The buyer would simply be taking on operating expenses for hosting 15+ years of videos for no reason.

Do you think this will lead to the downfall of Vimeo? How are you and your colleagues interpreting this move?

So wait, they're trying to be Vimeo now?

Vimeo is going for a different market. It's like YouTube except for artists and creative people (not that YouTube can't be used for this.) And they seem to be doing just fine with that.

Please do, my Vimeo stock is worthless.

What's next? Vimeo? Vidme?

Vimeo is already owned by IAC.

Sounds like Vimeo.

cheaper than vimeo ?

afaik Vimeo is still running on VC cash and will in the same position. Start mirroring vimeo.

Remember Vimeo? They started as an alternative to Youtube, letting anybody upload. Then they decided to dump their small users and go for large ones.

Vimeo is publicly held, so we can see how this worked out.[1] Price one year ago, at the peak, $49. Price today, $6.54.
