That's the funny bit, she is a normal citizen. She wasn't working for the CIA, it was her husband. Which is a slap in the face to the family of the boy who was killed.
> I don't recall whether she genuinely didn't believe it, or whether she felt it was better to lie to the kids to keep them motivated in the present
She stated it as a simple fact and seemed to believe it. There wasn't any indication that she might think it was a fact of what one might call "political convenience". It made the scene just that much chilling to me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MpKUBHz6MB4
I'm confused. The article is talking about her ex-husband. Did she marry as a child? Or did some things happen to her as a child and later her husband of all people got his hands on some recordings? Or are you talking about some other person than the woman in the article?
I think her intent was simply to invoke empathy for what happened to her husband (to try to put us in his shoes). It wasn't meant as any kind of a broader social or political metaphor.
That's not what I'm asking at all. I'm asking if she was purposefully targeted (assassination) or if she was in a house where other's were the targets (seems to be the case).
> In the mudroom at the back of the house, Susan found a note by the microwave from her husband of almost 18 years, Mike. "Sue, haven't been sleeping. Had to get away—Went to the beach."
Wow. Tell me you definitely planned this murder without telling me you definitely planned this murder.
That phrase made me realize she's really traumatized. When I read about her childhoold I confirmed it. Pretty sad for her I guess, but still she should grow up and see a doctor or something if she wants to work again... I'm surprised she got there in the first place.
> her voice quavered recalling women who killed themselves after G.I.s who had taken them as common-law wives subsequently abandoned them and their children.
That would explain a lot if the same thing was occurring there
Her family connections might had something to do with it. Its easy to screw poor kid, but Oil executive family that regularly has Secretary of State, a former Secretary of Defense, and a former Senator dinner guests? Better think twice.
That's an odd conclusion, especially with so littke information. Her reply re the soldier signals she's capable of sensuble social criticism, and the rest of the story, if somewhat alarming, points to her being extremely resourceful.
I was really surprised by that complete lack of empathy. But well when you get to read about her childhool everything makes sense I guess. Still, she went a bit too far...
And then "she went to police - police should told her to keep quiet and all would be well, right now I have to beat her up and it's all the fault of police - gave her funny ideas".
An alternate explanation is a woman was protecting her child from a threat --real, perceived or otherwise. Poor choice? Probably. But I think you've only explored one side of the story and a lot more information has become available in the last 12 hours.
