1% is a lot... why can't people deal with percentages of large numbers? Its COVID all over again. 1% of 7 billion is 70 million. Thats ten holocausts!

Supply and demand means I won't go hungry, but less valuable people absolutely will. Like the Ukranians during the holodomor...

1% of 7 billion is 70 million, so its 100 times worse than you thought.

Just for perspective: 1% of 1 billion is 10 millions. That's a lot of people and then some.

But if you multiply that 0.000001% by 7 billion people, what do you get?

the 0.1% could be hundreds of thousands of people?

7 million people is 0.1% of the population.

Approximately 1% of the population die per year.

You think that's a big number, but it's not. People die.

Even so, 1-2% of 1 billion people is 10 million people...

> 70 million people is a lot of people.

So one person isn't a lot of people ... are you saying one person is negligible? That one person's life doesn't matter?

Two can play this game.

1% is 1%. Every life is important, but 1% is still 1%. And 1% is not a lot. Whether it's people, apples, or pencils doesn't matter. It's a ratio.

1% of the world's population is almost 800m people. That's >10x the death-toll of WW2 (which took 6 years to achieve).

1% of 1.357 billion people is about thirteen and a half million people.

Time for me to stop reading headlines literally.

I'm inclined to agree, but can you please clarify "a lot less than one billion"?

I mean 0.000001% of 7.5 billion is 75, and that you'd really need a bigger percent of the world population than that. Pretty sure I have the math right.

1% of humanity is something like 75 million people. That's plenty of people to correspond and work together with.

1 percent of the world population is 78 million people, that is many, even if you try to make it seem small by using percent. Each of those people were a member of a family, a mother, brother, father, son or similar to someone.

But by your reckoning it's not many, and given Hitler killed 6 million Jews, which is a lot less than 78 million, he didn't kill that many either.

Yes.

7 billion people => 7000 Million.

1% of that, 70 Million.

Population of australia, 25.7 Million people. So not only less than 1%, less than 0.5%

When talking about the world, one of 8 billion people, 0.5% is a massive figure.

In a world with 7 billion people, even if you are one in a million, there are still 7 thousand people just like you.

This attitude is exactly why things won't change. .1% of the world is still 7 million people.

A poet (Polish?) once said that "one million and one is still one million" (IIRC he was talking about Stalin rulings and the number of victims, and that a single life does not weight much in such times, but I am not sure)

Billions = 99% of the population. Oh I see. Okay.
