the choice was a personal preference, and justified after the fact. This kind of justification happens way too often in a lot of shops, esp. if it is ran by someone with strong opinions and preferences.

People are allowed to have preferences.

Sounds opinionated. Why not offer a choice?

Was about preference, or maybe most people just shrug and choose one at random?

Agreed, why not let me choose though.

Absolutely. Should have been more clear it was preference.

there's a very large difference between "no preference" and "I find all the options unacceptable".

Sometimes you don't get to choose. Sometimes someone higher up in the company gets to choose for you.

It's really a matter of preference.

Whereas I would choose the one with the cleanest shop.

Yeah, but that's a stylistic choice. IMO this is one of those cases where one choice isn't better than another, and it's just better to have made a decision.

Nope it's a personal preference choice.

Maybe they don't think it should be up to them to decide which one you should go with.

Choice.

Choice.

Choice.

Choice.

It isn't a preference if it is your only choice.

im not sure we are suppose to have preferences, these days.

tl;dr choosing between several options seems to depend on the reasons for the choices
