Good points. It seems he certainly has an interest in startups in the tech industry. It would be great to see him work with or invest in companies he has a lasting interest in.

He's a smart guy and a very hard worker; my only source of hesitation is that I don't have any evidence he's ever had any interest in startups/business ownership/etc.

Wouldn't it be great if he created a startup accelerator there?

He knows a thing or two about getting money to fund hardware start-ups. Which is something different.

Because I like startups, and he seems interesting and determined.

His history and relationships with many startups?

Good call, even just considering the startups he alone has planned for the next several decades!

Totally agreed. It seems he made some interesting choices about how to setup a startup for success before bringing on a technical co-founder, and as a technical co-founder I would be interested to hear 1) what he did and 2) what he thinks would be useful in convincing someone like me to come join him

He's been there and done that. Presumably, between the acquisition of Google Earth and the fact that that acquisition was for pre-IPO Google stock, he's probably set for life financially. And he's already pretty well-known as the lead for Maps and Wave.

Personally, the major reason I'm still interested in startups is because I haven't yet succeeded at one. It's the challenge that's the thrill. There's a whole lot of bullshit that goes along with that, though, and if I already had a major success under my belt, I'd be more than happy to go work for the hot flavor-of-the-decade company where I can spend my time innovating and let someone else deal with the bullshit.

He's more on the side of genius, but less on the side of practical. I think he'd do really well if he tried a startup with someone who could help push him in the direction of building things with more practical use.

He's very bullish on a capital-heavy future for startups, as long as it's someone else providing the capital? :-D

Awesome, I hope he can do something to improve the startup scene while he's there.

Could it be that he's busy helping other entrepreneurs get their startups going?

If he wasn't in the software business, what venture would he ideally like to run?

Why is this here? Was he into startups and tech too?

Then he'd be doing more dotcom startups. Its obvious to most of us, that he's chosen the weird collection of industries he has, because of a bigger vision.

I love the traits of the company he wants to build. Wish him best of luck.

not becoming a has been I guess. He's also passionate about startups and tech.

He can always start or join a startup. He's a well known and well respected engineer. His name on the corporate letterhead guarantees at least a years funding if not more.

Also, if you looked in the comments of his G+ page there was no shortage of job offers there.

Might also be now he has capital he wants to work idea he cares about and wants to make reality rather than just finding the next unicorn (unless he also took large investments again to fund next company then I’d agree)
