The HN age demographic seems older than most online communities.

If they aren't using apps for quick thrills, they are moving to the Villages and using an upside-down pineapple as an ironic bat signal for some fruitless copulation.

Is there public demographic data on HN users? My expectation, based on comments, would be that HN is skewing younger over time. Certainly it's gotten more popular over time, so a static, aging demographic seems unlikely to me.

THIS is the most interesting comment on HN so far this year. I would LOVE to see a bar graph of HN user age distribution. Full disclosure: I'm 74.

There are plenty of people above the age of 40 on HN, though.

Well look at the demographic of the HN user and the obvious becomes even more obvious.

That's the worst thing about being on HN. You keep getting older and the users stay the same age...

HN is predominately older millennials and genx. This site isn't really making waves among the "kids" and I doubt ever will unfortunately.

It's us taking this ship to its end. o7

I would like to see the ages and sign up numbers over the years.

I don't know what the demographics of HN are but I suspect the average user is not a 22-yr old anarchist with a callous disregard for material reality.

The average age of any large group will be somewhere between 25 to 40.

HN has users well outside that range though, it is probably under-represented on the lower end and I would suspect over-represented on the higher end based on my IRL interactions with a fairly large number of HN'ers.

I think 27 is old for HN, so I'm right there with ya. The tinder and snapchat generation blew right by me. I still use twitter and instagram, but I don't immediately reach for them. I typically go to HN, an article, or another piece of reading material when I'm bored.

I like HN because it is more mature and there's lots of places for people to have fun like that.

There's a reason you're on HN, I expect many people here to be outliers/outcasts for their generations, be that 67-year-old or 17-year-olds.

HN user demographics...

HN had a huge sophomoric Randian streak years ago.. It seems to be maturing as I assume the users age.

Sounds more like HN users than like teenagers? No. Very much no.

I'm realizing more and more that HN targets the... More seasoned folks on this planet.

That was a touch of sarcasm. But there must be some pretty young people on HN too.

This is becoming more common on HN these days.

My understanding is that there are a lot of early adopters under 25 on HN.

Also, look how old my HN account is! LOLZ. I'm old :(
