HN titles are often edited after posting, so it's possible the original title misrepresented this.

I've noticed a lot of posts on HN recently get their titles changed after posting, and this one will as well because it is quite incorrect as you pointed out.

Then the HN title is inaccurate.

Why is the HN title so different from the article's title?

HN has a character limit on the size of the title, I think it's around 80 characters so the OP probably had to edit the original title to fit in here.

Yeah, the HN article title is inaccurate.

The HN title? It appears somebody changed it.

The title appears to break HN rules, as it doesn't match the title of the linked article. @dang?

What's with the edited title on HN? Now most of this doesn't make any sense.

HN messes with the title in various ways when you post something. Not sure if this is documented anywhere.

It wasn't the title of the HN post itself that was changed, but rather the discrepancy between the title of the HN post and the title of the article.

As for the title of the article, well, follow the link.

In case dang sees this: The title here on HN doesn't match the original title of the article, and (to me at least) it now gives the opposite impression as what the article is saying.

HN often changes titles when the moderators feel that it's inaccurate or flamebait-y.

In this case, I think it's the entire reason to read the article.

I posted it with the original title. I don't know why the HN moderators almost always change titles. Happened to me a couple of times.

The edited HN title is a command, not the original title of the article.

This is a quirk of HN posting policy: to use the original article title.

FWIW, its not in the title of the article, just the HN title. Mods should change it probably.

The HN submission guidelines include the following rule:

"Please use the original title, unless it is misleading or linkbait."

The original headline is a bit sensational/clickbaity. That's a judgment call in this case, IMO, but I suspect that's why the title was changed.

Can the title in the HN post be changed? I agree it's totally misleading after reading the article.

Oh, you're right.

That's odd considering how rigorously titles on HN are changed to match the original.
