Search YouTube for “stroad” (edit spelling) there’s a guy that’s very passionate about this topic with a lot of high quality videos on it.

sort by: page size:

Road Guy Rob - Covers transportation topics, mainly the engineering behind roads.

Mentour Pilot - Aviation related but I think lessons that can be applied to any field

Peter Dibble - Covers a wide range of historical engineering projects

Bobby Broccoli - A Jon Bois expect instead of sports for academia (this guy makes really high quality videos)

I highly recommend some of the best content on Youtube, Ed Pratt's series [0] where he unicycles around the world. [0] https://www.youtube.com/@EdPratt

Probably Grady from Practical Engineering: https://practical.engineering/about

YouTube creator with civil engineering videos (I only do software, so learning about the physical world is super interesting).

His new book about engineering in plain sight (engineered things you see but may not think about in day to day life) is fantastic too.

You should watch more of Practical Engineering! The dude is super knowledgeable, has great graphics and physical experiments he uses to show his point, and every video is fascinating.

Great content from this channel, look into the rebuilding a Trabant's engine and his turning of a bus into an RV videos - lots of fun.

Thanks a lot! I’m definitely not looking for technical stuff only. It’s just that, YouTube’s recommendation algorithm skews me in that direction.

I like watching videos about interesting bits of history, debating/solutions for various civil/political problems, seeing someone being extremely good at their craft (whether that’s woodworking, electronics, painting, building houses using old techniques, etc.).

I also like investigative videos without blockbuster content and a ton of dramatic music, but those are really hard to find.

There are plenty of resources on youtube, i found Primitive Technology channel quite enjoyable to watch.

There's a guy on youtube who makes videos about these sorts of things:

(radiation, medical, and industrial disasters)

I second your recommendation. I've been following the Folding Ideas channel for a while, and deeply enjoy his long form video format. Where most online videos like to do a brief touch on a topic, covering the surface level detail before moving on, the guy behind that channel goes deeeeep in a way I find very satisfying.

I would recommend checking out the channel "Primitive Technology". It is a good example of quality YouTube content.

My favorite is TPAI https://www.youtube.com/c/ThePostApocalypticInventor

He has a very interesting series of videos on repairing a wide variety of things he buys from scrapyards in Germany.

Since you mentioned STG and Schmee I'd like to extend with:

Misha Charoudin - Daily VLOGs about him living and working at the Nurburgring

xthilox - super fast Nurburgring laps in his Cupra

DannyDC2 - great VLOGs about a Honda Integra DC2

Louis Rossmann has a good number of videos on that topic on YouTube - reviews, repair stories, court testimonies, etc.

I might just come forward and recommend NighthawkInLight. He does not upload as frequently as some of the other channels mentioned here but his videos tend to have a much higher production value for some just as interesting topics of science and technology.

Applied science is a channel in a similar vein. Tackles a lot of interesting engineering projects and walks through all of his results till getting his final product. Really interesting stuff.

This is the kind of content that can be done really well on YouTube. Someone who knows a lot about what they're doing, and who's just taking something apart and putting it back together again and talking all the time about what they're doing.

In general, FortNine's channel[0] is incredibly informative and entertaining; many comments on his videos suggest people watch without even riding a motorcycle. See his educational, elaborate explanations of the physics of riding, market/business aspects (esp. interesting is relationship between motorcycle dealerships and manufacturers), reviews, and much more. Well worth exploring.
