If it's a production builder built house, it might have 3/8 inch drywall.
1/2 or 5/8 inch drywall makes a big difference to how solid a wall feels but that usually only happens in custom high end builds.
If you’re running cables through the space in your walls, you will find a hole saw and a little plaster/paint is pretty cheap. Some kind of an access panel for the entire length of the wall? That’s a lot more expensive, and uglier to boot.
Do other people have better walls than what I'm used to? I already know quite a bit about where my apartment neighbors are in their space and what they're doing.
