Doesn't mean it's right. In fact it's fucking wrong. The CIA should be abolished. And this saber-rattling against a country that poses no risk to us is disgusting and wrong. The US is the most dangerous country in the world and must be stopped.

The CIA's statutory mandate is limited to foreign intelligence. Virtually everything the CIA does within US borders is illegal.

Wrong on both counts.

The CIA has a blank check and does whatever the fuck they want. Much of it opposed by most Americans if they ever find out about it.

Yes, this. Why do people think the CIA should have a right to do this, but other nations' intelligence agencies shouldn't?

The CIA are not the good guys here. This kind of duplicity just causes more war.

But everyone does it - not just the US.

If the CIA does something against another country it’s still illegal.. just not inside the US.

The CIA is supposed to be projecting Americas' force around the world, covertly, for the good of the American people.

This is not necessarily good for humanity.

The CIA doesn't follow the rule of law (as evidenced by this leak). Wanting to disband them is not the same thing as saying we shouldn't have a US intelligence agency.

You haven't looked at the dodgy stuff the CIA has done over the years, included bringing down governments, funding coups, responsible for the deaths of millions.

Yeah, I guess I don't think those guys should have power like this.

you believe that the entire CIA as it currently exists is unethical and illegal.

The CIA, as it appears now, does a huge number of unethical and apparently illegal things. It appears to be beyond oversight or control. I do find it really hard to support any action by them, just as I would find it hard to support FSB or MI6 actions. The CIA appears to be a threat to civil liberties and representative democracy in the US itself right now.

But you're falling into a rhetorical trap: just because coffee is hot, you don't wait until the coffee is cold to drink it. You can judge relative degrees of hot, just as we can judge relative degrees of unethicality. It's pretty darn bad to assassinate US citizens without due process, and I'd say due process in public, whether the citizen is abroad or on homeland soil. It's pretty darn bad to torture anyone. It's less bad to attempt to crack iOS to spy on people, and it would be even less wrong to explore the exploitability of iOS. The latter may not be wrong at all. It's completely OK to analyze open source intelligence.

I am completely bemused that on the one hand the CIA is quite happy to literally murder, rape and and torture left right and centre, overthrow foreign governments, interfere with elections etc ... but is careful about adhering to the finer points US Constitution.

The CIA should absolutely be abolished.

It's very clear we have different ideological opinions on the actions of the CIA. The actions of US intelligence agencies over the last decade (at least) is absolutely disgusting.

These people are A-OK with murdering American children, but you somehow believe they draw a moral line at interfering locally? Get the fuck outta here.

There's absolutely no reason to believe the CIA is above meddling domestically.

The CIA has no jurisdiction outside of the USA. Do you not understand that?

That's why the CIA doesn't operate inside of the United States.

It is beholden to the laws of the United States and tasked with protecting and upholding the Constitution.

But there are no stipulations against doing bad things in non-US lands.

For sure the CIA has done a ton of crazy shit. They should be subject to oversight and accountability, but abolishing them won't accomplish much other than introducing a massive blindspot in national security.

I take the CIA's word, which is part of our own government, over the word of individuals who seek harm to American interests.

You're probably going to get downvoted for that, but I, too, find it ironic that someone in the CIA said this, given their history of funding several terrorist groups to help act as a insurgency to overthrow foreign governments not aligned with America.

Why the CIA isn't supposed to operate inside the United States.

The CIA should be completely abolished. Unlike the FBI, it does not seek to enforce any laws whatsoever; instead, they operate with absolutely zero oversight, there only rule being that they're not supposed to be involved in domestic matters. I wouldn't be surprised if they tag-team with other friendly agencies like MI6 to spy on each other's domestic targets so as not to violate that rule.
