I don't mind the ads, they are clearly labeled "sponsored".

What I hate is all the fake reviews influencing my choice. You buy something highly reviewed then receive some giftcard/offer or something in the packaging saying to leave a review and get something in return.

Now I have to "reddit productX" and read there before making a choice.

I agree with OP and disagree with you. People are different. I hate ads and I rarely buy products via ads. More often I use friend recommendation or product reviews/comparisons. I don't want to see ads when I am not planning to buy something.

That's surprising to me. I hate ads. If I see one poping I usually blacklist the product. When I want to buy something I do technical comparison and try to find genuine reviews.

I dislike ads in general. Specially Youtube ads. They are hysterical and for some god knows reason advertisers think its a good idea to repeat ad nauseum the same ad multiple times even on the same video. I end up hating the brand more than having some interest in the product.

(Paid) reviews on the other hand like unboxing, configuring and testing a product that I'm interested in are totally another thing. This applies to furnitures, house appliances, computers and so on. A good example is that I did not knew how much I wanted to build a fully silent computer before watching so many build videos of a certain fanless case that looks like a metal cube.

I prefer classic advertisement labelled as such over subliminal manipulation like product placements or fake reviews / fake "fans" on social platforms.

And frankly, I even discovered products through ads I might have never found otherwise, even though that's not how it should be in a perfect world.

I don't enjoy ads that advertise things that I've already bought AFTER I bought them.

At least if I get an advertisement I immediately understand the biases behind whoever served it to me, with stuff like reddit or blogs I can never be sure how astroturfed it is, or whether the people reviewing things even know what they are talking about.

I'm not a proponent of advertising in the modern sense, but it's probably the least dishonest way that companies pay to promote their product. Professional reviewers are a good medium but it takes time to find those in a new space where you're not sure if their standards and preferences match yours

I'm not against the idea of ads, at their best they actually serve as a form of product discovery for viewers. What I am against is deceptive and low quality clickbait.

I don't mind being showed ads. It's being packed up and sold as the product I have a problem with.

I, on the other hand, would rather they be ads for things I _don't_ want, so that I'm not tempted to spend money on crap I don't need but have been manipulated into wanting more than I already do.

The problem for me there is that those ads are usually complete garbage or outright scams. It's not for a real product that I could even buy.

Problem with ads is that we don't want to buy from them, we want to search and evaluate products instead. I never buy anything online unless I test both the seller and the product for bad reviews. Ads are just too risky to buy from. I need to trust before I buy, and it's silly to keep watching ads when I know I am not going to buy anything from them.

Same. Even if I get an ad for a product that actually interests me, if it's interrupted my experience against my will, I will seek out their competitor to buy the same product lmao.

"Okay, that's cool, I want this, but not from you."

I completely agree. I cannot stand some random YouTube ad that YouTube itself plays before videos because it's not relevant and I do not trust the people that are marketing it.

When I see someone I trust on YouTube recommend a product in a pre-roll ad or the like, then I don't really skip it and I do really keep those companies in mind in case I ever am looking for a product that they might offer.

Yup, skip all sponsored and ad content. I do the same on Amazon and ebay - even when the advertised product is _exactly_ what I want, and the best price available, I refuse to purchase from a sponsored listing.

I don't generally like ads, but sometimes they do advertise a product that I needed anyway or is better than what I was using before.

no, sometimes the ads are helpful for me, but I'm not really against ads. I prefer for there to be ads so (small) companies can try to convince me to buy their stuff (the alternative for me is basically just defaulting to the big co's with their marketing budget).

an example of this was that I was looking to buy some Airpod Max's and noticed Sony has XM5's that are superior and cheaper so I bought those instead.

And I respectfully disagree. I don't enjoy ads, I never click on them even if the item is something I'd use at the time, I will not click on it. I'll just go to amazon or whatever and get it there. I will never, ever click on an ad. So I'd rather not even see them.

Same, it's almost like ads are personalized and being bombarded by similar ads says more about the consumer than the supplier..

I dislike them just as much. I dislike advertisements because I don't enjoy people trying to make me act irrationally. Wikipedia advertisements are just as manipulative as normal ads, if not more so.
