Samsung Galaxy S23 -- Vietnam, South Korea

Possibly some Google Pixel 7 -- Vietnam

ASUS -- Taiwan

Sony -- Japan

(Sometimes it's only specific models.)

There are phones made in South Korea, India, Vietnam, Japan, Thailand and Taiwan.

No Samsung phones are built in China, most of them are now manufactured in Vietnam.

OP might have consulted a Chinese issued map :)

Supposedly, about a third of Samsung phones are produced in Vietnam https://e27.co/1-3-samsung-phones-made-vietnam-20150513/.

Some googling shows me that Taiwan, Vietnam, South Korea, Japan and India have significant share of smartphones produced (one example https://www.androidauthority.com/where-smartphones-are-made-...).

Samsung mobile phone manufacturing left China long time ago. Most Samsung mobile phones are manufactured in Vietnam these days.

I think Samsung mostly avoids producing products in China.

The vast majority of Samsung phones are made in Vietnam, India, and South Korea. Samsung Mobile no longer owns factories in China, though they may or may not contract out manufacturing for low end phones for the local China market.

Apple manufacturers in India and maybe Taiwan soon it looks like. Samsung makes its phones in Vietnam and India.

Looks fairly possible to by non china made phones

Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam manufacture a lot of phones.

Samsung makes most of their premium phones outside of China.

Show me a mid-market up to top end Android phone that isn't made in China...

Yes I know there's a series of specific Samsung models that are approved for US govt use and are likely made in a facility in south Korea.

I think we have two categories of things

A) phones made in China with software/OS load for CCP compliant censorship and data collection

B) phones made in China with software and OS load for the global market (example would be oxygenOS on an English language OnePlus phone. If it turns out there's hidden data collection or censorship frameworks in oxygenOS I would be very disappointed.)

While you might be right, I can't really find data to support that claim:

https://blucellphones.us/where-are-samsung-phones-made/ claims Samsung is 50/50 India/Vietnam

Pixel 5 and 6 are made in Taiwan.

Aside from Xiaomi. Similarly, Taiwan has TSMC and SK has Samsung.

LG and Samsung both manufacture a small portion of their handsets in China if I'm not mistaken.

But yes, LG did move South Korean production to Vietnam. Aside from these countries, LG also produces in Brazil and India: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-lg-elec-mobile/lg-electro...

However, Samsung represents approximately a third of the world's smartphone market, while LG is something like 3% -- tagging along behind Samsung, Huawei, Apple, Xiaomi, and Oppo.

Hardly any of the iPhone is made in China. Taiwan is not China. The same is true about Samsung phones, they've almost entirely eliminated China from their manufacturing process. Three times as many Samsung phones are made in Vietnam as in China at this point. Before another five or six years out, barely any non-domestic smartphones will be made in China.

Lot of phones aren’t “made” in China. Just assembled.

I'm guessing probably none today. The smartphone business is heavily commodified at this point and there is no "basic components" that be made exclusively only in China. As I noted earlier in my comment, there are over 200 suppliers and subcontractors who set up shops and make basic parts for Samsung in Vietnam. Further, none of the "key" components such as AP, memory, storage, wireless radio, display, or glass, is made in China. Lastly, considering South Korea's recent brouhaha over THAAD, no South Korean company wants any further economic risk from political conflict with China and have been severing their dependency on Chinese suppliers last two years.

Samsung is neither Chinese nor Californian. Their phones are designed in south korea and manufactured in South korea, indonesia and brazil.

Samsung doesn't "make" its phones in Vietnam. It assembles its phones in Vietnam using parts imported from China. 5G, battery protection circuits, microphones and speakers... Those are all Chinese in every phone regardless of where it is assembled AFAIK.

Nokia (recent, it's really a Chinese company). Also I'm in Vietnam.
