Did it? OK. I don't keep up with the release dates anymore. But I just got the notifications on my iPhone and iPad literally last week. I've only been on 16 for a few days.
How do they define "today"? Because I've been running iOS 17 since last week.
EDIT: Seriously, I got notified about the update the day they premiered iPhone 15, I thought that's their standard operating procedure to release software on the same day as hardware. Reading about iOS release today was really confusing.
Is there any "early access" program that I could have unconsciously signed up to, so that's why I did receive it early?
Oh they are? I thought it was just released all at once? Like on the Apple site is says that iOS 11 will be released on the 19th. I always get updates on the release date.
Didn’t Apple announce they were doing this last year?
I thought the only thing that was new this week was confirmation it would be in 18 as opposed to 18.1 or 17.6 or at some other time. But even then 18 seemed the most obvious anyway.
I don't think iOS did it retroactively. It's just that, since so many more people actually update (because they're not at the mercy of their carrier), devs update their apps more often.
